Dauphin Intermediates Edge Souris 6 to 5 in Playdown Thriller

Dauphin Intermediates defeated Souris 6 to 5 in a tight second playdown game. Nantais starred in net for Dauphin as the teams traded goals, with Francis, Tom Scrase and Feedy scoring late to snatch the win. Mayers praised for hard work as Dauphin held on after Souris pulled even in the final minutes.

Dauphin and Souris Tie In Intermediate Semi Final Opener

Dauphin and Souris battled to a two all draw at the Dauphin arena in the first of a two game semi final series in provincial intermediate hockey. A disciplined Souris squad matched the hosts as Dauphin blasted late in the opening period and again pressured in the final minutes. Souris cashed in with strong second period play while Dauphin’s quick attacks kept the visitors on edge throughout the contest.

Dauphin Council Considers New Turbine for Power Plant

Special Dauphin Town Council meeting reports no trouble passing borrowing bills for waterworks up to 550000 and approves firebox repairs at the penthouse. Souris vs Dauphin hockey scoring rush continues

At sixteen minutes Klym opened the scoring with a fast shot after a pass from McMaster. A minute later Bladon scored Dauphin's second as Scrase fed the puck into Souris territory. Souris replied within a minute before play continued on page four.

Accidental Shot Leads to Negligence Charge

Blake Gallaway, 13, from south of Gilbert Plains, was wounded Friday night when a gun fired during a dispute about barking dogs. The bullet passed near his armpit as he rode a dog sleigh to safety. Joe Solski, visiting John Prytula, was charged with negligence and remanded on bail after appearing in Dauphin Police Court.

Dauphin Town Moves to Pass Bills in Legislature

Three Town of Dauphin measures move toward approval this week after readings and referrals. Mayor McDonald Councillor Solomon and Solicitor E N McGirr K C lobbied Winnipeg committee support. Bill 27 expands waterworks borrowing from 450000 to 565000 for dam and filtration plant costs. Bills 28 and 29 adopt proportional representation for town council and school trustees elections with rural ward school trustees unchanged.

Father and Son Banquet At St James Church

The annual father and son banquet was held Friday evening in the basement of St James Church chaired by Dr A D McKee. About one hundred dads and sons attended with guest speaker John Conner urging youth to take responsibility and pursue crafts. George Armstrong gave a humorous sincere toast to the fathers as church ladies served the banquet.

Annual Short Course Opens With Record Enrollment

The Dauphin Agricultural Society opened the 12th Annual Boy's and Girl's Short Course and Judging Competition in the town hall on Tuesday. W. D. Strang and Mayor D. D. McDonald led the ceremony, with John Conner and D. C. Foster assisting. A poultry-focused day drew 135 students as lectures outlined a provincewide industry valued at over four million dollars, with 18 commercial hatcheries producing over 1.25 million chicks. Foster noted a new blood testing program for pullorum affecting 72 000 birds across 500 flocks and a 19 percent infection rate.
