Birtle Wins from The Pas in Three Game Series at Dauphin

In Dauphin the Birtle intermediates beat The Pas three games to none in a province playdown, with 2-1 on Tuesday sealing the series. Dodge and Isman stood out in defense as Barker Brydges and Chapman led the north in snappy, hard hockey amid a large crowd.

Hryhorczuk Acquitted in Manslaughter Case at Dauphin Assizes

The Dauphin Court of King’s Bench opened the spring assizes with four cases on the docket. Walter Hryhorczuk faced manslaughter and negligence charges for a February collision, but the jury found him not guilty on both counts and he was discharged.

Editorial note on Manitoba hockey playdowns moved from Dauphin

The Manitoba Hockey association sustained an appeal against playing off in Dauphin and ordered games on neutral ground closer to Pine Falls and Birtle. Pine Falls questioned travel, Birtle cited hostility from Dauphin spectators, and while most spectators were fair a small minority were influenced by propaganda. We lost the play downs.

Mills to Visit Dauphin for Scout Rally and Badge Awards

Field Scout E F Mills of the Boy Scouts Association will visit the Dauphin district March 21 to 25. On March 25 at 7 p.m. in the Dauphin Town Hall a rally of wolf cubs and Boy Scouts, with parents and friends, will feature Mills presenting athletic, swimming badges and service stars. A short concert and cubbing and scouting work follow. Mills also plans to visit Winnipegosis March 23 and McCreary March 24.

Seven Year Old Boy Killed In Rifle Mis Adventure

A 7 year old boy, Harvey Mushrow, was killed by a rifle shot fired by his 7 year old companion Beric Pocklington. The gun, found in a kitchen after hunting season, had a spent shell and three undischarged rounds. No inquest was held and burial followed in Roblin. Great sympathy spread through the town for the families involved.

An exciting hockey game at Dauphin arena ends 1-1 after regulation and two 15 minute overtime periods between Roblin and Dauphin girls. Clarice Kelso scores for Roblin, Helen Marsh nets for Dauphin, with strong defensive plays from B Hartmier and Janet Syme cited.

Experts to study Manitoba peat beds in Manitoba

The Ottawa department of mines will be asked to send an expert on peat to Manitoba this year to study the peat beds and advise on the best development method. The decision was made Monday by the Minerals committee of the Industrial Development board in Winnipeg.

In a filled town hall Dauphin Normal school students presented drama and song. The one act plays included A Brother's Loyalty with Murray Sperani and others and The Doctor's Dilemma with Dmytro Hnatiuk Florence Adams and Ken Tretha Statham. A string quartet and chorus accompanied violin solos by Sperani and numbers See our ears with feathered spray The Dancers and Stealing o'er the golden west closed the program.

Rev M Gilmour Named Queen's Lecturer at Kingston

Mclean Gilmour, a notable University of Manitoba graduate, is appointed a New Testament lecturer at Queen's University Kingston. Son of Rev R H Gilmour, he trained at Union Theological Seminary New York and earned a two year Europe fellowship. Appointment starts July 1. Fire destroys Mossbank Commercial Hotel causing about 10000 loss.

Irish St Patrick Banquet Celebrated by Dauphin Irish Society

The Dauphin Irish Society held a St Patrick banquet at the Town Hall with 225 guests. Judge Donovan spoke on Ireland's progress and unity with England, while Rev D Barnett entertained with wit and history of St Patrick. Music by Murray Sperani, Steick's Old Time Orchestra, and Mrs Perwyles' Orchestra accompanied the dinner and dance.

Clothing Course Achievement Day At Lifton Stage

Achievement day under the Clothing Course was held in the Community Hall with 130 attendees. Mrs. Evelyn Ames led the event, groups demonstrated sewing techniques, and 24 notebooks 39 garments 15 pattern bags 9 work boxes and 21 other articles were showcased. Afternoon tea capped a successful program with St Patrick theme decor.

Meeting Call Regarding Manitoba Wheat Pool in Dauphin

All farmers and others not in sympathy with the 100 percent pool proposition are invited to a meeting at the Elks Hall in Dauphin on Monday March 28 at 2 pm. The Provisional Committee says the organization will be the main business with general discussion afterward. Delegates from outlying districts are especially welcome.

Dauphin United Church Choir Recital Announced

The Dauphin United Church Choir led by A. Marshall Neal will present an annual recital Thursday evening in the church at 8 oclock. Tickets are 50 cents and can be bought from choir members or at the door. A capacity audience is expected.
