Rural council hears delegations on ditch work and river diversions. Ward plans include widening the Wilson and Vermillion rivers and extending ditches to relieve water flow. Reeve Potoski notes funding and project extent depend on federal and provincial contributions.
A fire at the home of Mrs Hen started by a short circuit in an electric water heater wiring. The blaze caused considerable damage and kept volunteer firefighters on site for about an hour.
The Red Cross canvass began Monday with D.Y.P.A. members visiting Ward three households. J. W. Oliver reports strong response with about 500 collected so far. Dauphin area aims 2000 from Manitoba’s 180000 objective. campaign closes March 31.
The rural council asks the Department of Public Works to take over and maintain the road from Dauphin through Valley River to Winnipegosis as a provincial trunk highway. It also requests one third of Mink River drainage cost sharing with provinces and Dominion government. A three mile new grade between Sifton and Winnipegosis highway and the final mile into Sifton are to be gravelled with provincial grant, though completion is pending.
Miss Johannesson arrives in Toronto for a royal visit, despite a severe cold and rough flights. Mayor Bulimore S Solo Mon and Wm Briscoe welcome her, as she tours York hotel, Eaton’s fashion show, CBC broadcast, and social events while critics note poor weather and a re routed trip.
After unseasonably warm weather with readings around 39 degrees residents thought spring had arrived. A sharp drop Tuesday to 17.6 below zero followed last week’s 26.6 below, then a weekend warmup began melting snowbanks. A fresh 1.65 inch snowfall on Monday and Tuesday covered bare patches again.

Dauphin enters the senior league and will play Brandon Portage and Winnipeg with a March 22 start date and a double header against Brandon teams. In a recent semi final, Souris bantams defeated Swan River 15 5 in sudden death.
A Dauphin Theatre contest invites attendees of The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer on March 18 to enter by writing their name at the door. One name will be drawn to answer a question on stage. if unanswered, another name is drawn. The winner gets a trip to Brandon to see Barbara Ann Scott, with a reserved arena seat.
At the Dauphin General Hospital annual meeting eight governors were re elected and Wm Cruise was elected. Directors discussed delaying the nurses residence construction and possible boiler upgrades after awaiting Winnipeg firm advice. John Gardner and H N Macneill led the session with plans for a three year director rotation and pending auditor reports. A $200 freight claim and $15 000 insurance for $27 000 lumber and hardware were noted.
