Johnston elected president of Dauphin Bar Association

Isaac C. Johnston QC of Dauphin was elected president of the Bar association of Dauphin Judicial district at the annual meeting. Red Shield drive outlined for Dauphin area

Dauphin organizers announced a Red Shield drive plan after falling short of the 1956 objective by about $2000. A canvass raised nearly $1000 locally, with $700 from Gilbert Plains Grandview Winnipegosis and Ochre River. The 1957 goal is $3500 led by Lionel Beech with Mayor S E McLean assisting.

Saskatchewan Island Named For Stan Bladon

An island in the Reindeer Lake area of Saskatchewan is named Bladon Island after the late Pilot Officer Stan Bladon. He died July 24, 1942 in a plane crash near Dauphin while stationed at No. 10 SFTS. Bladon was a noted hockey player with the Portage Terriers and Regina Rangers, whose 1939 to 1941 team won the Allan Cup. His parents live in Fort William, Ontario.

Extensive Road Program Planned For This Area

The Department of Public Works announces a 75 percent overall increase in road work in the area. Over 100 miles of projects are slated with No 5 highway seeing bridges and regrading from Laurier corner to Ochre River. No 10 and No 20 upgrades cover grading drainage and extensions to connect with existing routes.

Lions Ready To Build Outdoor Pool In Dauphin

Dauphin Lions delegate told council the club is prepared to construct an outdoor pool at Vermilion Park with an estimated cost of 35 000 for 75 by 25 feet plus 5 000 for a circulating system. Maintenance would be town or another group’s responsibility. The club has 27 600 on hand and urged other pools or groups to assume operating costs. indoor pool would cost about 100 000 more.

Snowfall totals rise as storms hit region

Over the March 5 to 12 period 5.2 inches of snow fell, pushing monthly total toward eight inches. Snow from last weekend and earlier in the month exceeded January and February combined, with visibility under a half mile on Monday as nearly three inches accumulated and gusty winds. Temperatures swung from a low of -11 to a high of 25 across the week.

Lois Christie Crowned Snow Queen at Dauphin Snow Festival

Dr. C. C. Wright says a schedule for polio vaccine clinics for children six months to five years will be finalized late this month. Will Preside At Convention Of Manitoba Grand Black

Albert M. Simpson of Dauphin will preside at the 57th annual session of the Grand Black Chapter of Manitoba in Scott Memorial hall Winnipeg March 18 and 19. He holds the title Right Worshipful Grand Master. The Royal Black Knights of Ireland unite Loyal Orange men promoting civil and religious freedom. Born in Wiarton Ontario in 1900 he moved to southern Manitoba in 1906 and has lived in Dauphin since 1935.
