The colts class showed sixteen entries with praised Clydesdales and Percherons. dairy and beef calves numbers rose 200 percent from last year, with quality improving accordingly. Fire on Main Street: Melnick Claims Gas Explosion

Death of Gavin Strang Pioneer Settler of Dauphin
Gavin Strang, born 1857 in Glasgow, died after a three week illness in Dauphin. He homesteaded in Touchwood Hills Saskatchewan, served in the Riel suppression, married Martha Fee in 1884, and helped open Dauphin’s agricultural development. He last appeared publicly at Burns supper January 25.

The Dauphin Boys' and Girls' Athletic Association hosted the first rink carnival of the season attracting four to five hundred spectators. Prizes were awarded for costumes and races, with judges Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Palmer and Mrs. Dan Hamilton selecting winners across many categories including dancing, military, comic, patriotic, and relay events. Reverend Fred C. Middleton, longtime Grace United Church pastor in Dauphin, will begin duties at the United Church in Roland Manitoba in July after a four year term ends. Grace and St James units plan to unite then. The Roland church is a well equipped rural facility seating 600 with heat, a cement floor, schoolrooms, assembly hall, kitchen, and multiple out-stations served by an assistant pastor.

Eagle Captured in Melton District for Sale as Pet
John Pshebnaicki, of the Melton district, brought an alive two inch talon eagle to the Herald office on Monday. The bird was caught in an ordinary snare two weeks ago and has thrived in captivity eating a whole rabbit per meal. Enquiries may be made of Mr Pshnebicki for purchase as a pet or roommate.
