Prize Winners at Winter Fair Highlight Dairy Calves and Colts

Two hundred fifty attendees heard judges and professors review the winter fair's latest achievements. The colts class showed sixteen entries with praised Clydesdales and Percherons. dairy and beef calves numbers rose 200 percent from last year, with quality improving accordingly. Awards were presented by Minister Albert Prefontaine after a supper chaired by D. D. McDonald.

Mission Band Silver Tea and Bake Sale at St James

The United Mission Band hosts a silver tea and sale of home cooking and candy in the basement of St James Church on Saturday, March 16, from 3 30 to 6 o'clock.

Wm. McClernon’s 1929 Model Destroyed by Fire

A new 1929 model owned by Wm. McClernon turned toward his home on the provincial highway a quarter mile from his residence. Faulty wiring caused the blaze, and despite efforts to extinguish it, the splendid car burned to a wreck. Loss is insured.

Mrs OBrien Suffers Leg Injury in Street Slip on Ice

Mrs OBrien wife of Jas OBrien a night constable broke her right leg near the ankle in a fall on Burrows Avenue Sunday. She was attended by Dr Rogers and taken home for care after the slip on icy sidewalk beside the Burrows Block.

Sunday report to the police notes a burglary at the store once occupied by Dan Szkwarok. A thief entered and took three fur caps from a show case with six on display, taking roughly half of the displayed items.

Fire on Main Street: Melnick Claims Gas Explosion

Mr Melnick owner of the cleaning shop on Main Street states the March 9 blaze was caused by a coal gas explosion in the big heater not gasoline as reported by the Herald. He plans to restart business in a few days in the same location.

Death of Gavin Strang Pioneer Settler of Dauphin

Gavin Strang, born 1857 in Glasgow, died after a three week illness in Dauphin. He homesteaded in Touchwood Hills Saskatchewan, served in the Riel suppression, married Martha Fee in 1884, and helped open Dauphin’s agricultural development. He last appeared publicly at Burns supper January 25.

Dauphin Forces Intermediate Final With 13 3 Win

The Dauphin All-Stars overwhelmed Pine Falls in a two game series by a 13 to 3 combined score in Dauphin. Friday’s 7 0 win followed by Saturday’s 6 3 victory produced Dauphin’s advance toward the provincial Intermediate Championship.

Skating Carnival Draws Dense Attendance in Dauphin

The Dauphin Boys' and Girls' Athletic Association hosted the first rink carnival of the season attracting four to five hundred spectators. Prizes were awarded for costumes and races, with judges Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Palmer and Mrs. Dan Hamilton selecting winners across many categories including dancing, military, comic, patriotic, and relay events. William Haines stars in Telling the World at the Dauphin Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday family nights.

Reverend Middleton Accepts Roland Call in Manitoba

Reverend Fred C. Middleton, longtime Grace United Church pastor in Dauphin, will begin duties at the United Church in Roland Manitoba in July after a four year term ends. Grace and St James units plan to unite then. The Roland church is a well equipped rural facility seating 600 with heat, a cement floor, schoolrooms, assembly hall, kitchen, and multiple out-stations served by an assistant pastor.

Eagle Captured in Melton District for Sale as Pet

John Pshebnaicki, of the Melton district, brought an alive two inch talon eagle to the Herald office on Monday. The bird was caught in an ordinary snare two weeks ago and has thrived in captivity eating a whole rabbit per meal. Enquiries may be made of Mr Pshnebicki for purchase as a pet or roommate. Late show at the Dauphin Theatre Saturday night. Wild Orchids starts at 10 o clock.

Scout Tea Dance at Town Hall March 23

Under the Boy Scouts Association, a Tea Dance will be held in the town hall on Saturday March 23 from 3 to 6 pm. Tea and dancing with the Dauphinolians orchestra.
