Winter Fair Short Course Ends With Banquet and Prizes
Over 20 people attended the town hall banquet closing the 6th Annual Winter Fair and Short Course by the Dauphin Agricultural Society. Dr J R Gunne chaired the program. trophies and prizes were awarded for horses, cattle, sheep, poultry, and crops amid speeches by Prof HB Summerfeld and N G Mackay.

First Baptist Church Anniversary Observed
The First Baptist Church marked its twenty fourth anniversary with Sunday and Monday services led by Rev. W. C Smalley general secretary of the Baptist Union of western Canada. Congregations filled the houses as a public meeting followed with greetings from nearby congregations and clergy.

Death of Mrs George E Buchannon in Dauphin Hospital
The community mourns Mrs Lola Alguire Buchannon a former teacher and long-time district resident who died after an operation in Dauphin Hospital on March 7. Born March 12 1897 she taught in Sandringham and Mineral Creek before marrying Geo E Buchannon nine years ago. Survived by husband and three sons Kenneth William John Edward and Donald George the funeral was held March 11 at the United Church with Rev A W Lee officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wm Fisher Bruce Goodhand Archie Chute Isaiah Winters M McDonald Wm Cruise all returned men.

Mrs Armstrong Dies After Long Illness in Dauphin District
Mrs E F B Armstrong a Dauphin district resident died Tuesday afternoon March 11 at her Mth Avenue NE home after a stroke. Born Sept 3 1862 in Elora Ontario she moved west with her husband 32 years ago and lived on a Barrows farm later. She was active in Presbyterian church work and survived by three sons Roy Harley Arnett and a daughter Mrs Wm Cox and one grandchild. Funeral service at United Church at 2 30 pm conducted by Rev A W Lockhead with burial at Riverside cemetery. pallbearers named.

Tennant Sentenced Two Years In Manitoba Penitentiary
John Tennant who escaped from Tar vhin gaol was recaptured after two days on the run and sentenced to two years in Manitoba Penitentiary. Police, led by Sgt. Remon and Constable Cruikshanks, tracked him after a manhunt that began Saturday morning near Shergrove and Ste. Rose du Lac.

Preparations for School Musical Festival Get Under Way
Preparations for the School Musical Festival on May 23 advance as the committee invites school entries at once. Shields and trophies have been generously donated by various organizations and firms and will be awarded to classes when entries arrive.
Electric light rate cut to 10 cents per kWh in Dauphin
Dauphin council approves a 2 cent cut to commercial lighting rates to 10 cents per kilowatt hour effective April 1 1930. Meter rentals will be abolished and a $1 minimum monthly charge set for power and light. A deposit of $3 per connection is required, with a 50 cent move charge. A new by law will supersede previous bylaws 476 and 97.

Steen's rink wins Burns Trophy and Grand Aggregate
A. B. Steen's rink Dauphin R. P. Eastman Gerald Harrington and W. H. Miller annexed the Burns Trophy and the Grand Aggregate at The Pas last week. Steen rallied from four down to win the Burns final defeating Dr. A B Porter's Flin Flon rink. He captured the Grand Aggregate with nine wins, besting the McColl Frontenac Oil Co Ltd entry.
