Banquet Concludes Short Course Awards Night

Nearly five hundred guests attended the town hall banquet closing the four day short course in agriculture and home economics. William D. Strang chaired as prizes for judging contests were announced and awards presented. Mayor McDonald and MLA Hawkins offered remarks and regrets.

Roy Watt Addresses Rotary on Eastern Visit and Plans

Roy Watt spoke to the Rotary Club about international understanding highlighting a Chinese consulate view and proposals for Canada China ministry trade links. He endorsed university exchanges and noted engineering training debates by Verne Butterfield. Watt urged forestry conservation and praised Dauphin groups including the Agricultural Society and the Dauphin Herald.

Dauphin Falls Short in Manitoba Intermediate Hockey Series

Dauphin rallied from a 4 0 deficit to force overtime but Neepawa tallied the decisive goal six minutes into OT. The final series score was 5 4 in favor of Neepawa as about 150 Dauphin fans rode a special train to Neepawa, with Kelwood contributing 127 passengers. Bert Randall scored for Dauphin in overtime, but the comeback came too late to clinch the title.

Pioneer of Ochre River Lady Dies After Brief Illness

Mrs. Wm Blair of Ochre River died at home on March 6 1937 after a short illness. Born January 16 1870 in Madawaske Ontario she moved to Douglas Manitoba in 1885 and later to Ochre River. Survived by husband two sons Lloyd and James daughter Florence and eight grandchildren. Funeral at United Church March 9 with Rev Donogh waveing officiating.

Annual Meeting of Dauphin Presbytery Held Last Week

The Dauphin Presbytery held its annual meeting last Tuesday and Wednesday with Rev. C. S. Matchett and Rev. John Jacklary chairing. Delegates from Mafeking to Riding Mountain and Makinak to Makaroff discussed worship, missions, and finance. giving a total raised of 2034 dollars, up 29 from the prior year.

Funeral Services Held Saturday For James W Allin 68

James W Allin longtime Dauphin district pioneer died March 3 at his Dickson farm home after a short illness. He was born in Lucknow Ontario 1868 and homesteaded east of Dauphin in 1894. Survived by wife, son Cecil Peace River Alberta, and daughters Mrs Cliff Dick Flin Flon and Mrs Thos Hutchison Dauphin. Burial in Riverside cemetery after services at Lodge’s Funeral Home conducted by Rev W R Donagh Ochre River.

Judge Dysart Warns Against Destruction of Capitalism

Judge A K Dysart addressed the Dauphin Canadian Club at the Hamilton Hotel Tuesday arguing capitalism and democracy grew from private judgment. He traced progress from Renaissance to 1850, noting gradual limits on laissez faire and the British drive toward representative democracy.
