The Dauphin Public Library reports January and February circulation rose above December and January. Non fiction up 34 and fiction up 97 for a total senior section increase of 151. During eight Saturdays story hour drew 80 children, about 10 per Saturday, weather likely a factor. Sacred art display drew many visitors, some for the display others for reading material. Schoolwork kept the reference section busy as students researched information.

Manitoba Budget Brings Tax Cuts With 1965–66 Plan
Premier Duff Roblin unveils a 1965–66 budget totaling 185.48 million dollars in current revenue with a surplus around 250 thousand. Tax changes include repeal of the one percent land transfer tax and tax relief on diesel for farms. The plan also eliminates the ten dollar Grade 11 exam fee for 13 000 students and shifts foreign investment income taxes toward federal rules. Dauphin Wins Ninefold Increase in Provincial Grants
Provincial grants for Dauphin rise to 9727.50 dollars under the new program replacing taxes on provincial buildings and land. The Dauphin Ochre area held its spring teacher convention at Smith Jackson School on Feb 26 with 90 in attendance. Inspector M Ewanchuk of Winnipeg spoke on testing techniques including objective, subjective, and standardized tests and urged proper evaluation and tabulation of results. Afternoon sessions split teachers into primary, elementary, and junior high groups led by Miss Jessie Harrow.

Record $185 M Spending Program Shows Tax Shift
