Travellers Ice Carnival Draws Tremendous Crowd

The Dauphin commercal travel association staged its 15th annual ice carnival with a packed arena and royal observers. The program featured Ice Club on Parade, a two hour show of skating numbers, solos, and novelty acts including a model airplane act and military fusileers.

Park Road funding outlined by federal minister

Federal Minister of Mines and Resources J A MacKinnon disclosed that 430000 of an estimated 480000 for park highway work is planned for the department. The letter to W J Ward notes last year seven miles were completed. about 25 miles remain. Original 1968 appropriation was 209000, with four miles finished by August and eight miles of clearing and construction charged to that amount. An extra 50000 was later allotted enabling four more miles to be completed by late November.

Recreation Survey Committee Seeks Town Grant

The Dauphin recreation survey group plans a $1000 grant request to the town council finance committee to fund a town wide facilities survey. The advisory panel will form four working sub committees and hire a secretary for three to four months.

Lilianne Dufault Crowned Queen of Ice Carnival

Lilianne Dufault was crowned queen of the Travellers ice carnival at Dauphin rink amid a brief ceremony. She received the crown from Mayor Bullmore with her four attendants and will fly to Toronto later this month to appear on Kate Aitken's Town Of The Week radio program.

Five-Member School Board Bill Heads to Legislature

Draft bill proposes reducing the local school board from ten to five members. If approved, two trustees will be elected this fall, with W. L. Watson and G. Sumpfer remaining to complete their terms. Rural representation will change with ongoing two year terms and alternating elections. The bill moves from the deputy minister to the education minister and then to lawmakers.

Evergreen transit plans described by J E Henderson at the chamber of commerce meeting include summer schedules for sight seeing in Riding Mountain National Park Wasagaming service between Dauphin and Ochre Beach resort and Dauphin town and continued town bus service Four buses would cover sightseeing Wasagaming and beach routes Henderson asked chamber support as his park submission goes to Ottawa and to the utilities board hearings slated for Dauphin later this month or April The transportation committee was tasked with further study and possible chamber letters to back the submission
