School Board approves 16 room plant and saves costs
The board accepted architect F No Bemmens plan for a 16 room school on the Mackenzie site. A two storey building replaces two smaller ones to cut about $4.06 in construction and reduce overhead. Local labor and tender rights promised with construction to start soon and completion hoped for September. The Manitoba School Trustees Association held its 71st convention at the Royal Alexandra Hotel with 700 delegates.

Children’s Aid Society Card Party At Roseland Gardens
Members held a successful card party at Roseland Gardens raising 55 dollars for the Children’s Aid Society. Convened by Mrs. McPhee with help from Mrs. Daly and Mrs. Wallwin, the event featured bridge, 500, music, and refreshments. Winners included Miss Hambleton and Mrs. Solomon in ladies, and G. H. Vasbinder and A. Wood in gentlemen’s. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hamilton provided the hall, S.O.E. aided with chairs, and mortgage burning for the society’s Main Street home was announced for April 22 during the big celebration.

Fork River man found guilty of assaulting after village dance
John Helash of Fork River appeared before Magis trate Hawkins charged with assaulting and grievous bodily harm to Rena Burtniak after a village dance on February lth. The hearing showed Helash had struck the girl as she walked home with another man. He denied knowledge of the affair but was found guilty and sentenced to three months in gaol. Fires Destroy Four Barns Leaving Farmers with No Feed
Last Wednesday morning three barns and a hay stack burned in the same neighborhood. A second blaze damaged Mr. Zurawinski's stable and a third hit Mr. Schockinger's stable. A fourth fire struck Mr. Zabiak's barn as rescuers worked. Twenty chickens, pigeons and turkeys perished at Schockinger's. many animals saved elsewhere. Police investigate. arrests expected soon. Early Valley River pioneer Mrs Geo Hassard dies
Mrs Geo A Hassard, a long time Valley River resident, died peacefully Sunday March 5 at 1 p.m. She came from Portage La Prairie with her husband and two daughters thirty seven years ago and helped build the community.
