The Transcone Lions faced the Dauphin Kings in a pivotal game held Tuesday before a crowd under 1 000. Reg Keo starred with a 9 2 and 7 3 showing as Pernes led 63 in scoring. Transcone’s offense totaled 43 against Ringach’s 27 as the Kings maintained their year title hope.
Canadian National Railways announced three Churchill tours with about 1000 tourists expected from across Canada. Two trains will depart Winnipeg on August 4 and 11 or 18, while a third excursion will start from Saskatoon on July 31 in cooperation with Hudson Bay Railway.
Local event announces Buddy Knox and his Khthym Orchids performing at the Dauphin Airport Armouries from 6 PM to midnight. Tickets available via Dauphin Lions Club members. Knox, born in Harpy Texas, brings his musical act to the event this weekend.
The Dauphin Figure Skating club hosted the annual ice carnival Fairtime Frolics drawing about two thousand spectators. Wendy Whetter was crowned queen with Gail Johnson and Carol Crawford as princesses as a 120-member cast performed choruses, rock n roll numbers, a Scottish procession, and an Indian pow wow.
Dauphin Ochre Area trustees vented disappointment Monday after the department of education said it would not authorize the Whitmore school project as proposed. The plan to add eight classrooms and an auditorium was trimmed to four rooms and a smaller auditorium. Officials cited enrollment projections for 1961-62 and past growth as the basis for the revised scope.
The report notes a mild first of March followed by fluctuating conditions through early March. It records snow equivalent to 0.31 inches of moisture and claims overall travel conditions improved versus other areas.

A crowd of about 100 attended the official opening of the new 12 room collegiate at Ethelbert on Friday February 24. Speakers included R WooLightls director of Instruction and Hrghorc huk QC MLA for Ethelbert Plains. Dignitaries from the Duck Mountain school division were introduced and thanked for their work on the project.
The Dauphin McCreary Little Theatre entry The Hidden River has been accepted by the Dominion Drama League for regional finals in Winnipeg March 8 to 11. Thursday night March 9 the play is staged at the Dominion Theatre with four Dauphin McCreary cast members and participants from Brandon Winnipeg and McCreary.
Dr Malcolm G Taylor, principal of the University of Alberta Calgary, will be the keynote speaker at Brandon Manitoba’s education conference this Saturday March 1. He discusses continuing education and has a background as an economist and political science faculty member with extensive advisory roles.
The Danaphin Lions Club backs Easter Seals as Bonnie, daughter of Mr. James, leads the annual Manitoba drive. Children statewide join in mail campaigns to raise funds for crippled children's care and bone straightening programs, with Linwood school participation and local sponsors providing support.
The Dauphin committee on elderly housing met in the Teasn tall committee room and appointed E. Johansen as chairman F. S. Zaplitny as vice chairman Mrs DA Ross as secretary treasurer Professor Mrs A T Warnock as assistant secretary Letters will go to Dauphin residents inviting cooperation and attendance The group will study financing site construction needs and public relations with input from Winnipeg welfare officials.
The 63rd annual Dauphin Curling Club bonspiel opens with 92 rinks entered, including 54 locals and 38 visitors, competing for jewellery awards and major trophies across two open events and four secondary events. The gala opening featured pipe bands, remarks by officials, and official ribbon cutting.
Charleswood's Ted Bloomer rink won the Marsh Peters trophy at Dauphin to represent Manitoba at Trail for the national Legion curling playdowns. Bloomer with Doug McTavish Al Cooperman Bill Crocker posted five straight wins in the provincial final. Red Rock of Northwestern Ontario posed a strong challenge but Bloomer retained the Manitoba title and eyes the next championship.
