Winter Fair Opens with District Attendance in Dauphin
The 6th annual Winter Fair and Short Course of the Dauphin Agricultural Society opened with over 100 boys and girls in stock judging and 24 district women in poultry judging. Prof. Herner led poultry demonstrations and a large adult class, as Dr J R Gunne opened the event. The program includes stock judging across sheep, cattle, horses, swine, and calves, plus a new seed grain exhibit and lectures by MAC staff and Prof Harrison.

Robert W James, a Canadian National locomotive engineer, retired after 24 years with CN and 48 years in the engineering field. His career began in England, then Canada with multiple railways before 25 years with Canadian Northern and CN. He will travel to Saskatoon Edmonton Vancouver and then return to his home country.

The Dauphin District UFM annual ball held Friday evening in the town hall drew a jolly crowd. Ben Boughen and Rowan Durston organized finances while Lee Chute and Mrs J McRoberts led decorations turning the hall green and gold. Guests were greeted by L. D McKillop and W. J Wickes. luncheon ran under Jennie Strang and Mrs Akers with a committee from across the district. Denny Kells served as master of ceremonies and Ed Robson’s orchestra provided lively old time and jazz.

In the Keld District near Dauphin, Roman Kaschuk, 35, shot his wife 28, then used his bare foot to trigger a second shot before dying. The wife died at Dauphin General Hospital the same evening. An inquest was deemed unnecessary. The family included four children, ages 16, 8, 6, and 3.
