Joan Johannesson Tops Carnival Poll For Dauphin Queen

Joan Johannesson won the Dauphin Carnival Queen title with 473 480 votes. Elsie Russell was first princess with 256 520 votes, Shirley Williams second princess 527 460, and Helen Ward third princess 30 444. The crown ceremony featured Mayor Bullmore and Travellers Club officials as the queen was crowned and greeted by parade escorts and performers.

Communicable Diseases Reported in February

February saw few communicable cases in Dauphin with Mumps leading at three incidents. One case each of pneumonia measles and tuberculosis were reported. A chimney fire at Steve Stokotelny's home on Sixth Avenue extinguished by the volunteer fire brigade at 8 30 a m with no property damage.

The Dauphin council weighed DST adoption at its last meeting. Officials noted provincial or regional action would be needed and an unofficial poll at the latest municipal election showed residents voting strongly against adopting daylight saving time in Dauphin.

Coyote Population Rises in Dauphin District

In Dauphin municipality the coyote and fox bounty payout reached 255 dollars this year, with 24 coyotes shot by air support and 26 more by farmers and hunters over two weeks. The Rural Trasnicipalty secretary treasurer MF Szewczyk notes the rise reflects increased predation and control efforts.

Mrs Keats Injured At Travellers Carnival Arena

Mrs. Thomas Keats of Seventh avenue S W fell and broke her wrist Saturday evening just before entering the arena where the travellers carnival was being held. She was admitted to the hospital and returned home on Monday.

Truck and Cutter Collision Near Dauphin Injures Farmer

A two vehicle crash Saturday at the First Street and Second Avenue NE intersection involved a truck driven by Albert Snyder and a horse drawn cutter driven by Charlie Shelds. T. H. Shields a 72 year old farmer from ten miles north east of Dauphin suffered bruises and shock but walked into the hospital after the collision. The cutter was wrecked and horses bolted across the intersection onto Reichert's driveway and the school grounds before being captured. Other occupants including Mrs. Shields Charlie Shields and Pearl Shields were treated for bruises and shock and released.

Ten Pin Bowlers Defend Dufault Shield in Winnipeg Tourney

Bays and Wyndlas traveled to St. Boniface to defend the Dufault shield and compete in Winnipeg's annual tournament. Last year, Dauphin teams won the shield in a home and home series with St. Boniface, leading by 318 pins after the Dauphin leg. February Brings Harsh Weather With Snow and Freezing Temperatures

The Dauphin meteorological station reports February as a mean month with a low of 28.1 below zero and a high of 29.4 above freezing. The mean temperature was 0.7 degrees. Residents faced 6.9 inches of snow forming drifts that blocked many rural roads.

Dauphin Group to bear school construction costs

The Dauphin town school system will assume responsibility for building Hender son and MacKenzie alterations, not the entire area. M. F. Szewczyk announced after a meeting with Education Minister J. C. Dryden, outlining a per capita funding plan and separate insurance rates by construction type.
