Dean McEwan outlines changes for the Dauphin short course to be held in April in the town hall. The program adds six Manitoba films on poultry and grain hubs, reduces lectures, and increases social and film nights. Enrollment is expected to exceed last year as committee members, including Walter Frazer and Howard Campbell, organize talks by experts on cattle, poultry, grain, and nutrition. The carnival runs April 12 to 13 at the Dauphin skating arena with a parade and band performances.

Dauphin Firms Start New Year Remodeling and Expansion
Dauphin businesses push into 1949 with facials and repairs as Dauphin Fixtures reopens its shop on the former site, now a 100 percent fireproof one story building. G. Trudel, R. S. Oliver and A. Carbonneau anticipate a March 1 opening, with work slowed only by late motor deliveries from the east. The firm plans to manufacture fixtures for drug stores cafes beer halls and groceries and to repair farm machinery, aiming for about ten employees by spring. Palmer Service Garage reports major upgrades including a new office remodeled spare parts room intercom system and a GM sign. Town council to end tax discount system
The town will discontinue discounts on taxes and replace them with penalties to be decided later. Mayor Bulimore says the levy could drop about three mills, but the rate to fund schools and town services may rise by three mills to offset lost discount revenue. Last year discounts totaled 6226 dollars, near two percent of the levy, with additional discounts given through December.
