Visiting rink wins major Bongpiel prizes in Dauphin curling

The 20th Annual Bonepiel at the Dauphin Curling Club ended with visiting rinks taking most major prizes. Seven of twelve prizes in the week’s major events went outside, while five stayed in town. The Lieut Governor’s competition saw Waliwin beat The Pas’ Eagle rink in a gripping match.

Dauphin Beats Foxwarren In 6-2 Hockey Comeback

Dauphin Maroons rallied to a 6-2 victory over Foxwarren in the second game to decide the series with Foxwarren. George Heard and Gar Leech starred, goals coming late in the second and third periods as Dauphin pulled away. The teams meet again Friday in Foxwarren with Dauphin seeking a four-goal margin.

Hospital Act amendment advances for Dauphin hospital

The Hospital Act amendment, backed by the Dauphin Hospital Board to fund a new hospital building, passed its third reading in the provincial house last week and now awaits assent from the Lieut Governor to become operative.

Tax Commission hears Shell River appeal March sitting

On March 1 the Manitoba Tax Commission chaired by E. W. Watts and John A. Ross heard the Rural Municipality of Shell River appeal with J. L. Bowman K.C. outlining lands. The commission praised Shell River for well backed information and said it could give sympathetic consideration. Other appeals came from Arthur Hurst L Guillas Ste. Rose H E Wetland Ochre River and Grandview representatives.

Odd Fellows Present Address to Leonard Beer

On Monday evening Dauphin I O C F No 36 members honored Leonard Beer with a lodge address after degree work. Noble Grand Robert Fagen praised Beer's past help and his impending departure. The gathering ended with speeches, a social half hour, and refreshments.

Bracken supporters form urban rural unity group in Dauphin

A district meeting of United Partners of Man itoba supporters in Dauphin established a central constituency committee to organize polling and a future nominating convention for Bracken Government candidates. Delegates will be apportioned per capita from polls. Premier Bracken praised the move and budget situation but no candidate names were announced.

Dauphin Club Hosts Social Evening and Dance at Rose land Gardens

The Dauphin Community Golf Club held a social evening and dance at Rose land Gardens last Thursday. About fifty couples attended with cards on one side and dancing on the other. A seven piece volunteer orchestra played late hits and Mrs. M. G. Peebles contributed an extra at lunch. Refreshments were buffet served by a committee led by Mrs. T. G. Edwards.

Dauphin Margon Hockey Club Dance Aids Playoff Fund

The Dauphin Margon Hockey Club held a Friday dance with over 300 attendees, earning about 175 dollars for the team to finance playoff games. Dauphinalians supplied the music and a merchants donated prizes via a town wide ticket draw. Prize winners included C S A Rogers, Mrs Charge, H W Hopwood, H Wright, Miss J Wright, S Bliss, E Evason, Miss S Mitchell, D Chase, Mr Graham, J Gregor, Mrs Boughen, Capt Scrase, Mr Marantz, Mr Zickie, Frank Rintoul, Alex Katz, V Jackson, Mrs V Jackson, Mr J McQuigge, Mrs Geo Palmer, E Goddard. Waltz winners were Miss Melvor and Mr H Armstrong.

Dauphin Hosts Nine Outside Quartets in Ladies Bonspiel

Dauphin shines in curling with nine outside quartets entered in the annual Ladies bonspiel. Four events are contested the Hopwood Trophy Citizens Blue Ribbon and Consolation. Play began Monday night at 7 30 and ran until the banquet interrupted play on Tuesday evening before a hockey match between Dauphin and Foxwarren. The Dauphin Ladies C C hosted a supper for visitors Tuesday night at St James Church basement with ninety two at tables.

Building Plans Considered by Dauphin School Board

A Dauphin school board special committee reports on Winnipeg construction types as plans are gathered. At Friday’s regular meeting the architect will present two options: two single storey buildings and a two storey sixteen room school with separate entrances, plus cost estimates.

Double header for fire brigade halts at snow drift

Nemesis dogged the Dauphin Fire Brigade during a Sunday morning blaze at John Janowski’s Jackson Avenue home. Truck No 1 bogged in a snow drift, while No 2 returned for hose as firefighters scrambled to join forces, a second call finally extinguishing the fire and wrecking a night’s sleep.

Grandview oil lease canceled if test not facilitated

Ottawa March 1 The Grandview oil well owner must prepare the site for a proper inspection or the lease will be cancelled. Minister of the interior Charles Stewart based the decision on W Calder engineer report showing oil with no gas indicates it is not from the claimed strata.
