Victory Skaters Shine At Ice Carnival In Dauphin

The Victory skating club staged an ice carnival drawing several thousand fans with solos pairs and trios. Highlights included Violet Benson and Mike Couch Roger Spiers Mrs F Pohlman Dave Ross and Eric Abbott plus a Hawaiian number by Bell Smith. Miss Smith was acclaimed Winnipeg carnival queen in March plans.

Train Delay Tuesday After Derailment

A derailment caused a Tuesday train delay. Injuries were reported among passengers or crew, but the train managed to proceed. A special train from Winnipeg carried passengers back to Gladstone and rerouted them to Dauphin.

Super Minstrel Show Looms Up on the Horizon

Local Rink Cleans Up in Grandview Curling Spiel

Four Dauphin curlers dominated the Grandview spiel last week with ten straight wins. George Scott skip and teammates Ed Robson George Jackman and Ed Johansen topped the Grand Challenge Merchants and Grand aggregate standings by defeating local rink led by Al Leonard Andy Newton Archie Chute and Don Clark in the final.

Peter Millar Appointed Commissioner in Manitoba

Mihir ister W Morton announced at noon the appointment of Peter Millar, controller of the Manitoba Telephone system, to the position of commissioner. Millar succeeds John E Lowry, who held the post for 21 years. Millar has worked for MTS since 1909 after coming to Canada.

Bebb Delmage Share Curling Honors At Local Bonspiel

Mrs. Bebb and Mrs. Delmage shared top honors in two events at the ladies bonspiel here last Thursday with Mrs. A Lovell of Neepawa winning the secondary. Bebb retained the championship trophy after defeating Grandview’s Mrs. Robertson by one in the semi finals and beat Mrs. Newton 103 in the final. Newton had advanced by defeating the undefeated Delmage shotmakers in a tense semi final. Curling for Mrs. Bebb were Mrs. J T Forke Mrs. J Sump ton and Mrs. W L Williams. The runner up rink included Jeanette Wells Mrs L Kitson Marg Shortreed with Mrs Newton skipping. The semi final and final games.

Y.5.C. Public Demonstration Plans Announced

The Y.5.C. announces the first demonstration of Youth work to be held Monday evening March 5 at the Town hall. Guest artists will be members of the Ukrainian Catholic Young Peoples' society. Participants include the Junior and Senior Girls Indoor Athletic groups the Boys' Ruchub and the Bobby Sox club. The Youth Services Council urges attendance at 8 p.m. to view Dauphin’s boys and girls in action.

Board of Trade Plans Quarterly General Meetings

The Dauphin Board of Trade will hold combined general meetings quarterly in addition to regular monthly executive meetings. All board members will be invited, with notices sent monthly to the executive and quarterly to all members. W A Kennedy of the Winnipeg Board of Trade may be invited to speak.

Injured in Action Pte Ward Dies Overseas

Pte Charles R A Ward died February 20 from injuries while on active service with the First Canadian Army in Holland. He was 25, born in Dauphin, educated there, and enlisted December 1941. He trained at Portage la Prairie Red Deer Akta and Valcartier and served as ambulance driver before joining infantry. Memorial service planned March 4 at 7 pm at the Baptist church.

Missing RCAF pilot Andrew Kindrat reported over enemy territory

The Dauphin family of Mr and Mrs Metro Kindrat learned their son Pilot Officer Andrew Kindrat is missing after air operations over enemy territory. He joined the RCAF in 1941 at Winnipeg and trained across multiple bases before going overseas in 1944. Born May 15 1923 in the Sifton district he later lived in Dauphin with seven siblings and three sisters.

General Levy Raised to 19 Mills in Town Budget

The town announces a general tax levy of 19 mills with the school levy yet to be set. Council reports expenditures total 122 021.30 funded by waterworks revenue, business tax, sundry collections, reserve funds, and cash surplus. The 52 mill total rate matches 1939 and 1940 levels, with a 14% mill increase from last year. Red Cross canvass drives begin in Dauphin Friday March 2 to support wartime relief and hospital programs.

Chlorinator funding approved for town waterworks

The council seeks authorization to use five thousand dollars from the special reserve fund for an automatic chlorinator. A second five thousand comes from the tax equalization account, totaling ten thousand dollars. Approval was requested from the municipal commissioner as per procedure.
