Wolf theft case heard in Rose du Lac court

Mr Cyril T. Tucker heard a case of Andre Dohard charged with stealing a wolf based on circumstantial evidence from two wire snares. Levine Lepin testified to ascertaining the snare and a claimed sale of a wolf. The magistrate convicted Dohard, fining him and ordering restitution, with an appeal to County Court Judge Bonnyeasite set for March 5.

Woman's Hospital Aid Drive Raises $693.40

The annual fund drive held Friday February 17 by the Woman's Hospital Aid raised 693.40 in contributions from the town residents.

Grace Church choir hosts annual banquet with music and thanks

Grace Church choir and orchestra were guests at their annual banquet. Rev Fred C Middleton praised the choir and the new Sunday School orchestra. H A North thanked the organist Mrs I Winters and the ladies for the banquet, while Mrs Stelck and Clarence Chase spoke for the orchestra. The event featured two orchestra selections and a recitation. Choir officers were reelected. A forestry branch project to gravel part of the Strathclair road across the hiding Mountain is noted.

Dauphin Team Invited to Play The Pas During Carnival Week

Dauphin Intermediate Hockey receives an invitation to play two exhibition games in The Pas during Carnival and Derby week. Arrangements for expenses are settled and teams plan to travel Wednesday March 14. Curling clubs may join events at The Pas.

The thirtieth annual Dauphin Curling Club benapies ended Saturday night as Dow of Gilbert Plains defeated Pe Harrington rink in the consolation final. Epekien’s rink took two runner positions, with Heaslip winning the Lieut-Governor’s Cup and Robertson’s team taking Cameron Heap Trophy. Collegiates invited Normal class to literary meeting. Oracle reading and dramatized songs featured. next week plans a nationality program.

Manitoba International Oratory Contest Sees Record Entries

The International Oratory contest in Manitoba is organized by a Department of Education committee with United Farm Women of Manitoba. One hundred fifty four secondary schools entered, up from eighty nine last year. Local elimination is March 1 at 8 pm in the Collegiate auditorium with Collegiate and Wilson River contestants. The district final precedes March 31 and Winnipeg hosts the provincial championship at Easter. The March 15 public meeting invites all interested observers.

Lightning demonstration on new Ford car at Town Hall

Hall Motor Co of Dauphin staged an evening event in the Town Hall showing the construction of the new Ford car with motion pictures. A large crowd attended the demonstration and stayed for a dance to the Johnny Johnston Orchestra after the show.

World Day of Prayer Service Held in Dauphin

A large turnout of ladies attended the world day of prayer service at the Anglican Church in Dauphin on Friday afternoon under local women’s missionary societies. Mrs. D. D. Mc Donald presided with delegates from St. Pauls Anglican St. James United 1st Baptist and the Salvation Army.

Fathers and Sons Banquet in Town Hall Edition

Fathers and sons gathered for the annual banquet in the town hall on Monday evening under the Bay Life Cooperative Council. G H Crimes chaired with speeches by Geo Jackson and Magistrate Hawkins urging more fatherly time with sons, plus community singing led by Fred Middleton and others. The program included fire safety demonstrations, artificial respiration lessons, lariat use, Grace Church orchestra selections, and a supper committee drawn from Anglican Baptist Grace and St James churches. The curling rink will close Saturday night March 3 with rocks removed for all curlers.

F E Simpson KC addressed Dauphin high school students at a literary society meeting on Feb 24 stressing good character plus self confidence, handwriting, spelling, and punctuation. The program featured student performances and a skating party later that day with over 200 attendees and a social hour in the assembly hall.
