Dauphin Summer Fair presents a Saturday 3 p.m. Doll Carriage Parade in front of the grandstand. Two classes fancy and comic with no age limit. Open to girls and boys with wagons carts and toys. Free entry with prizes for both classes and additional awards.
Six areas Swan River Minitonas Birch River Ethelbert Roblin Ste Rose and Dauphin will take part in the 4H rally on Thursday July 12. The Dauphin Agricultural Society grants free grounds admission and invites all fairgoers to the concert and dress revue. Prizes exceeding 1000 dollars will be awarded for judging in beef dairy swine grain garden foods homemaking and other clubs.
Two young Dauphin musicians, Roger and David Watson, gain recognition for their talents. Roger plays flute and will tour with a concert band from the International Peace Garden music camp. David excels as pianist and French horn player and won four awards at a spring music festival, also set for the European tour with the band.
Donna Thomson, in the Dauphin Little Theatre production Protest, captured the Founders' trophy for best senior supporting actress at provincial competitions in Pilot Mound on Saturday June 2. It was her first Dauphin performance after moving here last July.
May brings 28 building permits valued at 312827 in Dauphin lifting May total and five month figure to 426827. New dwellings lead with 18 units at 139000 while Mackenzie school addition and hospital renovation add 109949 and 46778 respectively. Five month totals compare 1962 against 1961 with 44 permits at 426827 versus 76 at 706300.
Last Wednesday June 20 the Dauphin area welcomed a new agricultural service Ben's Livestock Auction Mart. Located three miles west of Dauphin on highways 5 10 the facility marks a new auction venue for local livestock trade.
The past week saw limited rain in Dauphin with only half an inch collected. Flack storms and flash hail events produced scattered showers, while temperatures ranged from mid forties to upper eighties across the period.
The RCMP shield for the best patrol group of the year went to Henderson school patrol and the Lions cup for runner up to Whitmore school patrol. On June 13 the awards were presented in separate school auditoriums with dignitaries including Councillor D W Hnatiuk Lions president K D Deans and Art McLaren.
Right Reverend I A Norris addressed Mackay Indian residential school at the closing exercises and prize giving on June 14. Valedictory by Germaine Stranger for four Grade 12 students, with gifts from Bishop Norris and Anglican awards. Simon Henderson topped marks at 98 percent and organist at Mackay chapel.
He was named to this office at the mid-June convention in Winnipeg and succeeds Eric C. Day, who has served as president for the past two years. Fred McConnell, secretary-treasurer of the rural municipality of Ochre River, was re elected secretary. A. Ayotte of Letellier is vice president and J. W. Hartry of Souris is treasurer.
Final election results show R. Elmer Forbes of the Progressive Conservative winning the Dauphin federal seat with 7,266 votes, over Liberal Sigurdur T. Sigurdson and NDP Zaplitny. Turnout reached 82.3 percent from 22,518 eligible voters, with urban Dauphin town setting a new record while rural votes declined.
Dauphin notes two local youths, David and Roger Watson, chosen for an overseas concert band tour. The seventh annual camp runs June 24 to July 22 at the International Peace Gardens, drawing participants from the United States and Canada. Courses expanded from basic band work to musical drama, ballet, choral work and art.
Elmer Forbes of R Elmer Forbes and Sons Dauphin is elected Robertson Associate member at the CSGA annual meeting June 20 at the University of Manitoba. The Robertson Associate award honors the highest CSGA member. Since joining in 1943 Forbes has produced pedigreed seed including Thatcher Selkirk wheat OAC 21 Montcalm Keystone Parkland barley Raja flax Rhizoma alfalfa Climax timothy and Russell oats. He began foundation seed production in 1948 with Thatcher wheat and has remained a foundation seed producer for Thatcher and Selkirk wheat.
