Reports say Chinese regiments attacked T-bone Hill in Western Korea with heavy bombardment and Allied troops repulsed the assault. East front action continued as UN talks at Panmunjom stall over prisoner repatriation while new spy charges implicate William Marshall in Moscow.
Jack 5 percent Irvin 4 4s and Jim 3% two miles north west of East Bay farm reported missing Tuesday afternoon. Search parties worked through the night. Jimmy found at 11 am about three miles north west. Jack and Irvin found after 1 pm about eight miles north west near their home.
Dauphin's tourist camp received a five star rating from the provincial travel bureau, announced by RK. P. Scott, parks board chair. Improvements including a new ladies wash room with two laboratories and two showers, along with refreshed administration building exterior and interior updates, accompanied the rating. Mrs. C. McEwen returns to manage the camp as the season opens on May 1.
Two Dauphin residents watched a dark object larger than a plane streak across the northeastern sky at 7 20 pm last Friday from the Elite cafe window on Main Street. Dorothy Holling, a former London plane spotter, described the saucer as fast and black with orange edge markings that may have been windows. A second sighting near Valley River last September by Michael Szewczyk and his son is noted in the account.
Signs naming Gartmore in the south and La Verandrye in the north end are now displayed at park entrances. The signs, painted in black and gold outline lettering, were erected this week by the parks board.
Week saw high 77.7 degrees on Monday and low 40.2 with cloudy skies and little rain. Farmers south of Dauphin seek rainfall for germination while northern fields show standing water amid sparse precipitation recorded Friday and Sunday. Daily highs and lows listed for June 18 to June 24.
Six teaching vacancies remain in the Dauphin-Ochre school area No 1. One each at Dauphin collegiate and technical institute and Dauphin elementary, four in rural schools. A physical training instructor for girls at Dauphin composite high school is not yet filled. Resignations by Mrs. M McPherson and Huntley Cameron create openings. Four rural vacancies at Makinak junior Woodbend Carrick and Hamilton. Appointments approved include Valerie J Swiderski and Franklin G Jansen Jr.
Opening day Monday July 21 will showcase a half mile parade with over 400 4-H club members from 37 clubs. The event includes judging competitions fashion show and evening concert with cups and wrist watches as prizes and a total of 425 dollars in awards.
Town plans 272 dual automatic meters across Main street Second avenue and adjacent streets to curb long parkings. Cost set at 98 each total 26656 paid on revenue share. Council considers 12 minute safety loading zones near offices. by law to regulate meters to be drafted.
Dauphin approves a new traffic by law replacing the 1945 by law with 11 amendments and changes. Angle parking at 45 degrees will be enforced in downtown areas while 90 degree parking remains in the court house area. Main street night parking is banned 2 am to 6 am to aid snow clearing. Parking distances from hydrants and intersections are adjusted and more stop areas added.
The Society for Crippled Children of Manitoba hosted a diagnostic clinic at the Leuphin health unit with Dr Bruce Leedman and Dr J K Martin. Thirty five children from Dauphin and nearby districts were examined locally and 168 were seen in clinics at The Pas Swan River Flin Flon and Dauphin. The society plans to implement recommendations and assist rehabilitation, funding from Easter seal sales and federal grants.
Ed Lundman explained to the chamber of commerce that meters and angle parking offer turnover for downtown parking. He advised meters run 9am to 6pm weekdays 9am to 9pm Saturdays, with no service Sundays or holidays and proposed a probationary period with council approval.
Clare Jacobson was installed as president of the Dauphin junior chamber of commerce for 1952 53 at the regular meeting last Monday. Also elected May 7 were Denny Kells first vice president Neil Houston second vice president Pete Goashukl ak secretary and Harry Gemm e treasurer. Annual reports were given by Ralph Bagley retiring president and Frank Wythe retiring treasurer. Wives and friends attended and a social evening followed.
The Dauphin Horticultural Society hosts a Saturday peony show in Buckwold's showroom open to Dauphin and nearby residents. It features three classes with four prizes each and a junior division for ages 16 and under. Committee members are D. E. McLean, Mrs. J. M. Douglas, and Mrs. B. Townsend.
At a Dauphin Lions club meeting new officers were elected led by President Caven Carmichael and first vice president Roy Stelck. Inducting officer Ray Dicks announced plans for a bandstand project and a Durston park picnic was set for Thursday.
