The Henderson school received the RCMP Shield for patrol work as the Lions club presents annual awards for the school patrol program. Perry Whetter and Harvey Buckwold co chaired the event. Richard Melnick also noted. The Whitmore patrol, led by Miss Dorothy Brummitt, comprises grade 5 boys. Local officials and Lions club representatives praised the patrols’ yearlong safety efforts.
The United States Britain and France issued a communique after two days of talks in New York expressing hope that persistence will yield progress toward peace in coming months. Molotov’s visit to the United States is seen as a chance to press a new Soviet friendship line and possible talks with smaller nations ahead of the Geneva summit on July 18.
A stormy Manitoba federation meeting with 233 delegates debated amalgamation between M F A C and M F A. Delegates rejected a negotiating committee report 68 to 87 and approved a floor resolution like the MFU District No 2 plan by 79 to 40. The convention favored reducing cooperative board seats to three and named Manitoba Pool Elevators, United Grain Growers, and Manitoba Dairy and Poultry Co‑operative as potential board actors. The body endorsed most MF A C MF U talks but kept the co‑op membership clause, and recommended steps to urge MF U affiliation with MF A C while suspending MF A C activities pending inter‑provincial plans. A key charge of division ran through the session.
The Blue Bomber Quarterback club will hold its first meeting of the new season on Wednesday June 29 at 8 pm in the town hall. Nine Winnipeg Blue Bombers members and executives will attend for a round table discussion. Two football films will be shown and the public is welcome.

S T Sigurdson of Winnipegosis was re elected to the Manitoba Elks Association presidency at the two day convention in Dauphin with 47 delegates from 19 lodges. Officers named for the coming year include Harry Morton past president J E Clevett and A Wadelius as vice presidents R Burk as second vice president J W Cook secretary and R McGimpsey esquire. Trophy winners included Winnipegosis for best ritualistic work Dauphin for best community service and Langrath for best community service in smaller centres.
Weekend rains in Riding Mountain caused flash flooding in Ochre River Ste. Rose areas. Estimated Ochre damage totals 15000 for bridges and roads with 2000 homes affected. provincial government to cover immediate flood costs under five sixths share rules, while local and municipal leaders coordinate repairs and reimbursements through 1956. Delegates from Ochre Ste. Rose and McCreary met with deputy premier Charles Greenlay and minister F C Bell to set funding and repair plans.

Honorary life memberships went to John Gardner and Edward F Fox. 30 year pins were presented to J Cecil Bryce and Paul Mizibricky. 25 year pins were awarded to William J Ward and Dr Michael Potoski. Claude C Howard grand exalted ruler of Canada spoke. Leitch Stewart and S T Sigurdson assisted in presentations. Dick Furneaux chaired. attendance included visiting and local Elks members.
L G Sneath of Dauphin is chosen vice-chairman of the Manitoba and North Western Ontario command of the Canadian Legion at the bi annual meeting in Flin Flon. W Johansson of Winnipegosis becomes district 3 rep on the provincial command. Jack Graves from McCreary named deputy rep. Dauphin ladies auxiliary also met with Mrs P L Keele president and Mrs J W McCallum representing Dauphin.
