Swimming Classes Set For July

Red Cross swimming classes sponsored by Rosarians will be held at Campbell's Point Lake Dauphin from July 8 to 19 and July 22 to Aug 2. Enrollment available at local stores and the beach office with Frank Bumsteed in charge. Six daily classes with evening adult sessions possible for ten enrollees. Courses cover beginner to senior level focusing on water safety and life saving.

Retarded Children Association Seeks Increased Grant Assistance

The Dauphin Manitoba association urges provincial and local governments to boost funding for education and training of mentally retarded children and adults. It notes two existing schools, enrollment totals, current subsidies, a $797 deficit, and plans a $40 000 two room building with no capital grant yet.

Aspen Leaf Beetles Hit Trees In Area

Infestation of aspen leaf beetles reported around Dauphin Beach Stony Point and Moon Lake in the Riding Mountains. Beetles, larger than a ladybug and greenish grey, threaten aspen willow ash and elm trees. at Stony Point they cover beach areas, at Moon Lake they crawl spruce trunks though needle loss on spruces is not expected. Officials say healthy trees can withstand the damage.

Art Rampton Named To New National Dairy Committee

A. V. Art Rampton, a Dauphin dairy farmer, is named to a 16 member national advisory committee on dairying. The committee divides Canada into five dairy areas and will meet June 25 in Manitoba. Members include appointees from farmers, provinces, the national Dairy council, and the federal government.

Dauphin to Get Provincial Technical Planning Help

Dauphin council was advised that provincial technical planning services will be provided under a three year contract. The program costs 50 cents per resident annually, starting July 1, with the regional development branch acting as planning consultant.
