Epidemic of scarlet fever disrupts Dauphin town

An outbreak of scarlet fever swells to 77 houses under health officer quarantine. The Dauphin School Board closes junior grades while Collegiate remains open for exams. Council orders police canvassing and public notices, with Dr. Bottomley advising quarantine rules and milk source checks. A separate inquest into a natural death is reported, and Dominion Day plans are announced with a full program in Dauphin.

A Dauphin Agricultural Society meeting in the Municipal Hall discussed a $1,000 community prize grant from Minister of Agriculture R Weir dated May 26 1941. The Department creates a Book Bureau for authorized texts and supplements in Manitoba. Local dealers may buy from the Bureau and sell at list price. boards may sell to pupils at cost, not for profit. Pupils and teachers may order direct at retail prices with postage prepaid.

The Dauphin district hosts a three session meeting in the town hall on Tuesday June 23 including speakers Mrs Gee Curtis from Neepawa and Miss Russell head of public health nurses in Manitoba. Miss Mildred McMurray of Child Welfare Legal Department may attend. The public is invited to all sessions.

Due to the prevalence of scarlet fever in town it is reluctantly decided that no Dauphin Guides should attend the Winnipeg Guides Camp at Pone mah.

Prairie farmers gain as tractor oils trimmed five cents a gallon

Price cuts on tractor kerosene by five cents per gallon and on tractor lubricating oils by six cents per gallon take effect June 10 across the Prairie Provinces. Driven by crude oil price drops, the measure targets Western farmers to reduce operating costs for the threshing season and beyond.

First Lady Golfers Competition at Dauphin Club

Mrs. Robert King won the inaugural Lady Golfers event at the Dauphin Country Club held Saturday afternoon June 13 amid showers. About forty ladies and gentlemen attended a tea after the match, with Mrs. W D King and Mrs W Robson in charge of refreshments. A one Club Competition is planned for June 26 and draw details will be announced.

Middleton couple injured in car rollover near Souris

Rev F C Middleton and Mrs Middleton were shaken as their car rolled over near A M Turner’s east of town. Both were taken to hospital after bones were found fractured and Mrs Middleton sustained a shoulder injury while returning from Brandon with their son after a weekend in Souris.

Mayor Attends Unemployment Conference Delegation Agreement

On Wednesday Mayor Robson and Councillors Taylor Rawson Whetter Solomon and Puchalski discussed a letter from Premier Bracken about an unemployment conference in Winnipeg on June 17. Solomon Taylor moved to delegate the Mayor to attend the conference. motion carried.

Burglars Strike Town Retailers Over Week

Thieves hit Wilf Robson's drug store on Main Street South stealing 388 in cash three mouth organs and toilet articles. Western Oil stock checked for missing items. Burelaries total four in the week. John Koshowski's shoe shop lost leather and shoes while Peter Cowton's grocery saw visitors depart with overalls and shoes after lunch.

Scout and Cub Meetings Discontinued For Holidays

Scout and Cub meetings are paused until after the holidays due to many boys in quarantine to curb measles and scarlet fever. The Scout and Cub Athletic Meet is postponed to August or September for the same health reasons.
