Death of George L. Castle reeve of Dauphin district

George L. Castle reeve of the Rural Municipality of Dauphin died early Saturday after a short illness. He was 64 and had long served the community as a blacksmith farmer and councillor. He leaves a widow four sons and three daughters. Funeral Monday at Dauphin Plains with interment at Riverside Cemetery. The town council attended in a body.

Plowing Match Huge Success At Ochre River Farm

The Dauphin Agricultural Society held its annual plowing match on the Lindsay farm at Ochre River with about 800 attendees. Winners across engine, horse, and walking plow classes were announced, and the event featured lunch by the Ochre River Women’s Institute.

Toronto Conservatory Examinations Schedule Announced

Local examinations of the Tor onto Conservatory will be held Friday and Saturday June 17 and 18. The theory exams Friday will be presided over by Miss Cadman. The piano exams will be conducted by Mr Zeigler of Toronto at Miss Pearl M Tucker's studio.

Eastern Star Garden Party Delights on Ideal Monday

Members of Eastern Star Lodge finally held a garden party on Judge Bonnycastie's grounds after two weather delays. The grounds were decorated with flags bunting and lanterns. Women offered ice cream and soft drinks from booths as a warm evening drew cheers. A band provided popular music for the event.

Stumping powder shown to clear stumps and boulders

About 15 demonstrations by H. W Brown of the Canadian Explosions for Sutherland and Stelck Co in the Dauphin district last week used stumping powder to remove stumps and 20 ton boulders. The mud cap ping method broke the rocks after blasting. Dauphin lands now cleared will soon grow grain.

Reverend to Address United Farmers at Burrows School

Rev McRitchie will speak at a United Farmers service at Burrows School at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 19. Farmers report potato bugs harming crops and some purchase Paris Green from Sutherland and Steick for pest control.

Has Beens Win in Dauphin League Football

Representatives of the Northern Baseball League gathered in town to set the season schedule with Dauphin and Gilbert Plains opening at Dauphin. In Dauphin Manitoba two weddings drew local notice. Evelyn Ayer married Horace Ayer at John T. Taylor residence with Rev W Bowman officiating. Kate Bates wed Wilfred Maynard at Dauphin. reception followed at home of P W Bates. A third ceremony at St James Presbyterian church united Bernice Alma Walker and Thomas Todd Wilson with a large procession and formal reception. The four new courts at the Company Farm should be ready soon after delays caused by procuring posts for the fence. The courts offer an ideal location and will attract lovers of the sport when open. Tax Commission Sits At Town Hall For Assessment Review

The Tax Commission chaired by Donnelly Forke and Watts held a sitting in the Town Hall with delegates from Dauphin Gilbert Plains Grandview Ochre River Ste Rose and other municipalities. Morning and afternoon sessions explored the Assessment Act and equalization of assessments with questions and answers and exchange of views on valuation methods. The meeting aimed to improve understanding for assessors despite the Act’s complexity.
