The Dauphin chamber of commerce invites members and civic representatives to a planning meeting to discuss Manitoba Centennal celebrations in 1967 and 1970. The directory card shows 217 members this year, up 25 from last year’s 192.
July 13 report notes 15 floats planned for the Dauphin Travellers Parade with Winnipeg contributing one entry.organizing via John Doll 638-3750, seeks lodges clubs merchants and other groups to provide floats. four bands and clowns will entertain, aiming to draw crowds and celebrate a vibrant community parade.
Brian Squair, a Dauphin Collegiate teacher for three years, will depart August 21 for Accra, Ghana to teach at Poedly Alongcolly Accra Academy. Accra is the capital of Ghana.
Kemp Mobberley was bought by Auto Electric Service, a Toronto headquartered firm, and will operate as Auto Electric Service Western Ltd. Len Towns of Winnipeg will manage the Dauphin unit, with staff retained. Harold Mobberley and wife Dora plan to remain in Dauphin, while daughter Sandra travels with her aunt this summer.
William G. Hanbury took over the Dauphin Motors General Motors franchise on May 4 from George Bates. The Dauphin Motors Limited operation includes a showroom service shop and gas station on Main Street. Hanbury, a Winnipeg native, previously served five years as general manager at Consolidated Motors and is married to Janice Robertson with two children Sheila and 10.
The past week brought heat and growing crops, but rain is needed this week for late crops. A trace of moisture fell, not enough to measure, with showers and heat forecast to continue into the weekend.
Les Wainwright reports final Easter Seal drive totals show contributions of 1080.45 dollars. It notes low mail returns with nine percent in town and ten percent in the campaign area as the Manitoba fund anticipates a strong overall year. The Lions Club thanks contributors and those who placed coin boxes.
Afternoon turnout reached 137 donors with 200 in the evening at the town hall totaling 337. 320 pints were accepted. Last year 294 pints were donated and the December Dauphin clinic saw 352 pints. The November 1960 clinic held the donor record at 411 pints. Staff of 13 from Winnipeg assisted 12 donor beds and 12 rest beds, with Dauphin nurses and Royal Canadian Legion auxiliary aiding donors and serving refreshments after the rest period.

In Canada June 18 election day marks the first 1000 candidate national race. Nominations closed June 4 leaving 1,012 candidates for 264 of 265 seats. Stormont's Ontario seat delayed to July 16 after Albert Lavigne’s death. Dauphin shows 26,849 electors, up 4,517 since 1958, with 134 polling divisions and 144 polling stations. Returning officer Vernon Rampton urges all electors to vote at designated stations.
June 18 marks the federal election with polls open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For first time the closing is one hour later than in 1958. Voters must mark an X in the box beside the candidate’s name. Advance polls increased to five locations including Roblin Grandview Dauphin Ethelbert and Ste. Rose du Lac with voting allowed for absence on election day. Advance poll votes will be tallied Monday June 18 at 9 p.m. as announced by returning officer Vernon H. Rampton.
An open air ceremony on June 3 marked the opening of Ste. Rose du Lac Regional Library. Robert Kremchuk, board president, thanked the provincial government for funding and noted it as Manitoba’s first bilingual library. The library houses about 2,600 volumes split across English, French, and German, with no charge for residents and small fees for nonresidents. branches are run at Laurier and Ste. Amelie.
