Rural Schools Stage Sports Friday Parade Honors
Rural schools staged a Friday sports event with pupils in school colors parading. Melton won best marching and neatness, Gartmore Mayflower second, Halley third. Valley Village last year’s winner. Judges included Mayor J. E. Ramsden. Wilfred Caldwell led massed choruses. Mayor Ramsden welcomed attendees.

Near Drowning Rescued At Dauphin Beach
A young girl playing in the sand at Dauphin Beach was rescued after a near drowning. Margot Laidlaw alerted rescuers, Jerry Pichard found Elaine by a pier, and Frt.-Lieut. J. Baxter led artificial respiration until revival after about 45 minutes. She recovered and left No. 7 hospital the next day.

Former Dauphin Boy Lost In Cologne Raid
Sgt. Clinton S. Chute aged 21 of Dauphin who resided in Regina and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force is presumed lost after a Cologne raid. Born in Dauphin he played hockey and baseball, attended local schools until 1930, and enlisted in 1941 training at Brandon Trenton and Calgary where he earned his wings.

Graduation Day at Collegiate Institute Sees 89 Graduates
Fifty grades elevens and twelves gathered in the Collegiate auditorium for graduation. Miss Beverlee Myers received the governor-general's medal for scholarship and leadership. Valedictorians were Ernie Stranachuk and Russel Phillips. Flight-Lieut. J Sargeau, speaking from No 7 Bombing and Gunnery school, urged students to pursue seven adventures in mind industry freedom and to embrace responsibility as they enter the world. The program included choruses and solos by students and a closing note from Principal A E Reid.

Reserve training strengthens with higher strength and a waiting list of eligibles. A second squadron is formed as the 103rd company of the Guards at Dauphin area increases. Training runs nearly every evening with parades and instructional work at Ochre River and Winnipegosis. Promotions include Palmer to 2nd lieutenant and McKee, McGuirk, Dagg to sergeants.

Decoration Day Observance Draws Large Dauphin Attendance
A large crowd gathered at the cenotaph Sunday for the District Decoration Day service in Dauphin. Veterans from the Veterans' Guard of Canada and the Fort Garry Horse Reserve led a parade that included two local RCAF flights, Canadian Legion B E S L branches from nearby towns, and youth groups. Attendees included units from Roblin, Grandview, Gilbert Plains, Winnipegosis, Ochre River and MaHmm. Major B Saunderson led the parade, with support from the 108th company commander.
