Town secretary treasurer Eric Day reported July 5 first installment tax receipts totaling $495 818 from a $703 800 levy, 70 4 percent collected. Income taxes reached $396 032 of $636 percence, with the prior three years showing varied percentages and totals.
The week saw maximum temperatures around the same level while minimums fluctuated. Rain totaled 2.52 inches with a 1.75 inch moisture event on Monday the 19th. Heavy showers damaged crops but hail avoided region, unlike Yorkton where 2% inch stones smashed windows and flattened crops under 45 mph winds.
Dauphin post office announces Aug 2 as a holiday with no letter carrier or suburban routes. Box lobby hours are 7 30 a m to 6 p m and mail will be dispatched as usual. No rural routes, but box collections occur on Sunday schedule.
Ken McCallum of Winnipeg to head local operations as branch manager. A Macdonald airport building will become headquarters with a gas fitter as installation manager once location is set. J E Moffat of Winnipeg leads Great West Heating Ltd as president and GM and will visit Dauphin periodically. The McCallums seek a four bedroom home for their four children.
An advance party will board the Churchill excursion train at Malton to hand travellers Dauphin brochures and answer questions. Upon arrival in Dauphin a welcome by local dignitaries and government officials is planned. Refreshments will be served by the Douglas Middleton chapter IODE. a boys and girls band will play a welcome and educational tours offered. The train arrives at 2 30 p m and departs at 6 p m with the band playing Au Revoir.
The owner, Fred, previously in China, offers Chinese and Canadian dishes. The front sports a fresh paint job and bright interior with open face windows inviting patrons. Additional alterations are planned over time.
The project will add eight brick apartments east of the first, with landscaping for residents and a possible third edition planned for next year, signaling ongoing expansion and confidence in growth.

J A Goodes, supervisor of small business management training for the vocational education department, was invited to the general membership meeting on Wednesday evening September 8 as part of a joint federal provincial program to expand training opportunities.
Mr and Mrs Frank Bank celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 18 with a dinner at Kings hotel attended by 48 family and friends. Father M Trzaskorma spoke, Joseph Bank paid tribute, and guests received flowers bouquets and telegrams. Katherine Janis and Prank Bank were married the same.
A damaged excerpt notes a 50 by 100 building expansion for office and show space. It mentions a new cement floor, improved repair capacity, and installation of large machinery and a fireproof board near the head door.
Work on the Dauhim native Norman Fair project advances on schedule. Subtrades appointed for the building’s completion. Exterior will feature stucco and cedar siding with hot water heating. Each suite will have separate entries. The fourth suite on the second floor will be for rent while owners reside in the lower suite.
Dennis Lauze, formerly of Winnipeg, named Insurance representative for Co op Insurance Services at 37 Second Avenue SW. The building features bright blue lettering on white brick and a natural plywood interior. Lauze is married to Elizabeth Yarworwski of Flin Flon and has two preschool children.
E. G. Barker, a new Dauphin resident and avid gardener, reports unusually prolific multiflora sweetpeas this year. He brought a stem with eight blooms and notes two more on the vines, including a nine bloom and a twelve bloom stem, with the Barker residence at 121 Forrest Avenue highlighting the garden.
Dauphin town council criticized the 40 mph entrance zone on PTH 20A entering River Avenue after the regional traffic board rejected lowering the limit to 35 mph. The council was told the entrance to town would remain at 40 mph and that Main Street requests for a reduced speed remain under review.
The Dauphin chamber of commerce asked town council to extend daylight saving time to the last Sunday in October to align with major centres. The request was referred to the next regular meeting on Aug 12. An amendment to the Official Time act allows six months of daylight time from late April to late October in Greater Winnipeg and lets other municipalities by by law adopt the same period.
Town council approves changes from police committee to traffic by law. Stop sign moves at Second Street NW and First Avenue NW with new north east corner control and white centre line. Yield sign added at Vermilion and Davidson with white centre line. Stop signs to be placed on Third Street NE and Second Street SE. Meter installations on Third Avenue NE and Main Street. Parking rules shift to 8 am to 6 pm on Third Avenue SW. Meters on Third Avenue SW from Main to first lane. School crossing Stop signs on Fifth Avenue SW to be used when occupied.
Bob Young, longtime Canadian National Railways locomotive engineman, made his last run into Dauphin on July 14 from Hudson Bay aboard train 432. He will retire officially on August 31 and attended a stag in the armouries on July 22 where gifts were presented by union and colleagues.
Dauphin town council approved the general terms of Bill 20 proposing three year terms for mayors reeves and councillors with triennial elections and offices to begin the first Tuesday of November after election. They will hear briefs at August hearings and consider related funding and development items including a $250 per resident child payment and a Hype building project on Mountain road.
