Mina M. Grant of Brandon held a plus half advantage over Mrs. Delmage in a Manitoba Hard Courts singles match in Winnipeg. Delmage earned second place in Ladies Doubles, and she lost the singles to Mrs. Cochrane, whom she had defeated at Minnedosa.
In inter club play between the Country Club and Community Club eight players are selected to face Neepawa district. Seven Country Club and one Community Club member posted the lowest 26 hole totals on both clubs courses. Bowman 181 Robson 184 Mulligan 191 Watson 193 Nagle 195 Trimble 197 W D King 197 Heaslip 191 lead the list. The eight will contest home and away games with Neepawa counterparts. the lowest 36 hole card winner goes to Winnipeg for finals. Community course hosts provided refreshments for visiting Country Club members on a hot day.
Country Club players who took part in the championship or handicap events must hand in their scorecards to W. Robson the draw secretary promptly. The draw committee has not been officially informed of all results and cannot proceed with arrangements until cards are received.
The Beavers visited Dauphin Plains last week for a postponed match and lost 5 to 3. A general meeting will be held in Mr Jon Barker's shop after the game tonight to discuss provincial playoffs and invite interested attendees. Dauphin Plains has shown progress since spring and is hoped to perform well next year.
An inquiry from W. W. Jackson explains fish fly epidemics arise from aquatic larvae living one to three years underwater. In favorable years, larvae of ages one two and three gain wings simultaneously causing a threefold increase. Adults live briefly lasting a day as ephemera while mating and laying eggs on water.
Mrs. J M Stewart, longtime resident of the district, died Tuesday morning July 26 after a year of poor health and a recent operation. Born Jessie Fraser in Ontario in 1856 she married J M Stewart and moved to Manitoba in 1889. She leaves two sons J A Stewart and W J Stewart and a daughter Mrs D MecKillop. Funeral was held at Dauphin Plains with interment at Riverside cemetery.
Unfavorable weather delays the second series with the C N R having only one game and five remaining, Beavers and Dauphin Plains four each, Rangers two. Hope to wrap up in two weeks. Thanks given to the Elks for August 4 football tournament expected to draw at least four teams.
Mrs Mc Lachlin suffered two broken ribs after a fall from a chair while preparing to defend her championship title at the country club. She remained off the course briefly as doctors planned rest and careful monitoring.
Hydro biologist A Bajkow of the University of Manitoba surveyed Lake Dauphin during the early part of the week and found the lake suitable for sturgeon propagation and the possible introduction of other species. He noted overfishing has reduced available fish and urged Marine and Fisheries to study conditions and set regulations.

The town council has cleared the way for rink construction after securing financial approval. The foundation will be built by local labor under the town superintendent, with steel framework and gallery surfaces laid by concrete pliers. Tenders will cover fabrication, erection, and lumber supply as the project progresses.
On a hot Saturday afternoon the implement shed at John MecKillop’s farm burned down with all contents. Loss includes a feeder a new corn binder cutter buggy harness sleigh outfits and 1400 feet of lumber. No cause found and men were in the field. Estimated damage 1400 dollars with partial insurance.
Word from Vancouver states W Edward McTaggart died Saturday morning after a long illness. Born in Clifton Ontario and raised in Dauphin, he lived in Winnipeg and Vancouver. He worked in newspapers and for the Calgary government as Fruit Commissioner. Married seven years ago to Elizabeth Sutherland, he leaves a wife and daughter. Funeral held in Vancouver.
The Rotary Club sponsors the promotion of the Dauphin Boys Band and will finalize its setup once a capable leader is found.
A 16 year old boy T Demcheson of Fork River drowned while swimming with five companions about 500 feet west of the concrete bridge on the Wilson River. He dived saying watch me and vanished after surfacing several times. Police recovered the body after grappling, coroner ruled accidental death and no inquest.
The beach welcomed the C.G.L.T. Girls of Knox Union Church McCreary led by Mrs. B A Tedford and Mrs. Vincent along with Trail Rangers and other families camping for a week. Local entertainments included bonfires dances and a sports day with 36 Girl Guides from Dauphin.
A string of burglaries and attempts occurred during the past weekend. Eli Bay's store was entered through a heavily barred window early Sunday, with losses not yet known. A Dauphin Milling Co. grocery entry failed. Mr Ankies and his wife evacuated their 6th Avenue Northeast cottage for safety at the Grandview Block store premises.
Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner open their camp last week as Sen Jack marks his birthday bonfire with campers. Mise Laura Chapman visits Belcarres aunt. S. T. Tyndale and daughter stay with Dr. and Mrs. Rogers. A warning to campers: beach not policed and mischiefmakers may bring trouble and fines. cool off in the Dauphin Theatre.
A spill occurred Saturday evening when Prentice's truck on its regular Western towns route overturned at Burrow's Avenue as it entered the town. About 72 dozen eggs were smashed. no damage to the truck or injuries reported.
H Emsley Fox tried a novel start to free his car from a mudhole at the Country Club last Thursday. While backing to push, the vehicle struck a tree and Fox sustained a broken rib, sidelining him from golf for a period.
Death occurred Sunday July 24 at Valley River in the long settled district. Mrs. Frederick Boughen aged 14 years 4 months is described as one of the valley’s oldest residents. born in Devon England 1843 she came to Canada in 1892 with her husband and family. She was predeceased by her husband about six years ago and leaves six children W J B F A J T E of Dauphin and Ed of Vancouver and a daughter Mrs G Jardine. Funeral was Tuesday with interment at Riverside Cemetery Eric Austin conducting the ceremony
