4-H Rally Highlights Biggest Fairtime Event In Town

Excursion Trains Booked for Churchill Port Tour

More than 400 passengers will board two CN specials from Winnipeg on August 10 and 17 for the 20th annual all expense tour to Churchill. The routes include Dauphin Flin Flon Cranberry Portage and The Pas. Each train carries two diners and two recreation cars one with a piano for sing alongs and the other for motion pictures.

Town Council Repeals Motion Picture Theatre License Limits

By-law repealed sections from Oct 24 1940 that capped cinema licenses at two while population stayed below 6000 and at one per 3000 residents above that threshold. Military personnel temporarily resident were not counted as town residents. Continued on Page 6 Col.

Plans are in place for the 60th anniversary of Gilbert Plains incorporation on August 10. The event features a parade, children's games, sports, fireworks, a monster dance, and a museum of relics with photos. Dignitaries will attend and anniversary ribbons will be presented to former residents.

Dauphin Ochre area board hires W. H. Ludgate to supervise construction of the Mackenzie school addition for about five months to save on architect fees. Architects will conduct six crucial inspections on soil conditions foundation masonry and mechanical trades, with Ludgate in charge of overall inspection.

Gates Total Soars as 13000 Attend Tuesday Show

Attendance figures soared at the DMCC gates with about 13 000 pleasure seekers on Tuesday. Wednesday attendance of 7000 brought the total to 27000, up 6000 from 1955, and with Monday near 7000 the three day total neared last year's 21000. In season sales reached about 2000 on Tuesday, 500 above 1955, as cattle and poultry entries set strong showings and Hereford stock and dairy cattle drew praise. Tender Accepted to Renovate Old Post Office Building

Ladgate Construction Company awarded a $6,432 contract to renovate the old post office building for civic administration. Work includes interior woodwork, new counters, doors, plaster and wall repairs, and ceiling and vault room updates. Execution planned in two months with divisions on main and second floors.

Fire At Armouries Causes One Thousand Dollar Damage

Fire at the armouries near the municipal airport on Monday evening caused about $1,000 in damage. Sparks from a jacket heater ignited a wall and coal bin, with firefighters working for about 14 hours to extinguish the blaze.

Water safety course awards total 98 after first session

Dauphin Rotary sponsors a water safety program testing 132 swimmers. Ninety eight awards will be issued as the first course closes.
