Abom thirty five contestants entered the Northern Manitoba Hardcourts at the Dauphin Tennis Club. Jack Scot of Dauphin Plaine won the men's singles and Hele Marsh claimed the women's title in two straight sets 6 1 6 1.

Crop Testing Field Day Set for Dauphin July 30
Dauphin hosts the first Meld day of the 1936 Crop Testing Plan with demonstrations led by J. E. Blakeman of the Dominion Seed Branch and Dr. G. P. McRostie of the University of Manitoba. The plan surveys seed from hundreds of farmers to identify improvements and reduce poor seed usage. The event at Main Street’s south end invites farmers and others to attend.

Greek Catholics Picnic At Broken Pipe Lake
Several hundred people from Dauphin and district gathered at Broken Pipe Lake for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Association of Dauphin annual picnic. Activities included sports races and amusements with Sifton defeating the Dauphin team in softball. Speakers included Hon J L Bowman K C Dr G D Shortreed and Messrs R J Dalgleish and R A McKellar who praised the association and thanked helpers who made the event a success.

Two Car Accidents Leave One Injured Saturday Night
A collision on Burrows Avenue near 8:30 p.m. left Jack Bureyko with a back head gash needing three stitches while his passenger Lorne Parker suffered a severe shakeup but returned home. Peter Kitchener of Renville drove the other car that struck Bureyko’s left rear wheel, causing the vehicle to roll over.

Dauphin Council Awards Dam Contract and Raises School Tax
At a Dauphin council meeting, four bids for a new impounding dam were higher than expected. After revision, the contract was awarded to Wm Newman for 34 424 40 on estimated quantities. The meeting also saw boiler and related installations awarded to Leonard & Sons and other bidders, while school rates rose by one mill to 31 mills and 14 mills for municipal purposes. The finance committee urged a 4000 sinking fund investment for waterworks debentures. The fire, water and light committee proposed two weeks of paid holidays for engineers and firemen after one year of service.

Sam Shatz of West ern Agencies Winnipeg pleaded guilty before Magistrate Thos Little in Police Court on two charges under the Livestock and Livestock Products act for buying eggs at Fork River. He was ordered to pay the court costs.
