Funeral honors 62 year old Mrs Farion after fatal horse accident

Mrs. Freud Farion of Sifton district Dauphin Manitoba died after injuries from a horse trampling at the Dauphin fair. The victim, born in Eastern Galicia, had lived in Canada since 1890s and leaves a large family. Her funeral drew a large crowd at the Greek Catholic Church in Sifton.

Kenneth Haight Dances At Dauphin Theatre Night

Kenneth Haight a 17 year old from Saskatoon wowed the Dauphin Theatre audience with soft shoe American buck and cog dances while a screening of The Criminal Code shown. The reader notes the performance contrasted with the film’s stark prison life and applauds the entertainment value amid strong Canadian youth cultural tone. Mr and Mrs M Wick and daughter Irene departed on Monday for Vancouver Victoria and Seattle for a vacation stay.

Ochre School Board assigns teachers for next year

At the Ochre district school board meeting on July 11, Principal Rubert KR Greenman of Dauphin teaches grades 1 2 3. Miss Kaye Smith of Neepawa teaches grades 4 and 5. Miss Leila Fraser of Adéen teaches grade 6. Miss R B Simpsom of Dauphin teaches grades 7 and up. Rural Ochre River schools to operate eight months next year due to financial conditions.

Dauphin Beach Cottages Fill Fast After Fair

Cottage renters flock to Dauphin Beach as the agricultural fair ends. Many families and visitors from Winnipeg Regina Prince Albert and Regina renew acquaintances at the popular summer spot where water levels are low and bathing facilities limited. Many named families and guests occupy cottages and bungalows including the Wrights the Argues the Robsons the Bowmans the Steicks the Dalys Gardners Jacksons and others enjoying the season.

Manitoba hotel proprietors gather at Kings hotel for talks

On Wednesday the 15th Northern Manitoba hotel keepers met at the Kings hotel to discuss current conditions and future improvements. Winnipeg guests attended with some wives. Luncheon at 2 pm followed by dinner at 7 pm with welcomes from Mayor Robson and remarks by MLA Ferguson. Tom Love holds the contract for the Pioneers' Cairn project in CNR gardens.

Prize List for Children's Sports Day at Park

A Kiddies Picnic event on July 30 features races from 30 to 100 yards for ages 5 to 14, water and boat races, a Greasy Polo contest, shoe and three legged races, and softball. Railroader Team Wins Playoff Opener Over Collegiate 4

The railroaders defeated Collegiate 4 4 goals to unknown last Friday at the ball park in the first game of the playoff series. McIntyre in goal kept the score low while Cappelle and Kent led the victors with braces apiece. Collegiate started with eight men and finished one short after adding two more before halftime.

Frank Hector Dies in Winnipeg Veteran of Great War

Frank Hector formerly of Dauphin and Winnipegosis died in Winnipeg at St Boniface hospital after a lingering illness. He was 43. Funeral took place at 2 pm from the family residence to Sharrey Zedak cemetery. Survived by widow six children and siblings, with business ties in Winnipegosis, Dauphin, and Winnipeg.

Provincial highway resurfacing blocks eight mile stretch

The eight mile section of provincial highway between the town and Ochre River boundary is closed this week for resurfacing. A detour via the old Lake Road is provided. The washboard gravel will be removed and the road treated with asphalt to provide a smoother surface for future use. After Dauphin is finished the section to Ochre Beach will follow.

The court grants a stay and adjourns the hearing in the Wallace versus Town of Dauphin closing lane on Main Street. Hearing rescheduled for some time in September due to holidays for counsel and staff.

Medill Relative of White Family Passes Away at Dauphin Beach

Mrs Medill aunt of Mrs W G White died shortly before noon on Wednesday at the White summer cottage in Dauphin Beach where she had been living with her niece. A Dauphin resident for years she had suffered ill health for two to three months. She had previously lived with Mr and Mrs W G White at Souris. Her husband died some years ago.

Nick Wally Gets Suspended Sentence for Theft

Nick Wally of Sifton appeared before Magistrate Hawkins on Monday the 20th on two charges of theft. He received a one year suspended sentence, was ordered to restore the stolen articles and pay prosecution costs amounting to $12.40.

R J Kerr Dies in Winnipeg Funeral at Dauphin

The 33 year old Robert John Kerr of Dauphin died in St Joseph's hospital Winnipeg after a two month illness. Born October 9 1897 in Dauphin he farmed then prospected in Northern Ontario. Unmarried he leaves father James Kerr and siblings. Funeral held July 21 at Farrell's with Riverside cemetery interment. Vermilion Lodge AF and AM assisted. Soldiers and police news follow.
