Allied Drive Breaks German Lines in Italy and Caen Vicinity

On day two of the second army offensive Allied forces crossed a highway toward Vimont seven miles southeast of Caen and captured Livorno and Ancona as part of a major push in Italy. Allied HQ reported Polish troops seized Ancona, while Livorno port facilities were largely destroyed to curb supply flow. In the same period, over 1,200 Allied bombers attacked southern Germany targets including munition plants and airfields in a record daylight raid.

Engineer Reports On Sewer Lines

The council heard two sewer project reports. A Third avenue extension would require fixing faults and delays this year. A Second street trunk line is missing and a northward Main street connection is proposed to prevent freezing. A second option for an egg pool building near the C N R tracks favors a First street S W to Main on First avenue route with cost estimates to follow.

Pte Irvin Roger Paulson reported killed in action overseas. Tpr Frederick Arthur Lusk injured. brothers John and Ronnie Lusk noted in service. Highway Scheme Far West Includes Dauphin

A United States Canada Alaska Highway association study promotes a westward system with Dauphin as a key hub through Riding Mountain National Park on No 10, linking to Jasper National Park and the Alaska highway via Yorkton Saskatoon and Edmonton. Ministers of four western provinces approve the plan to create jobs and boost tourism. Dauphin Town Council supports the program. The plan is foundational, expecting provincial feeders and additional plans.

Word of casualties reaches Dauphin region as F O Tony Negrich 23 listed missing after air operations. Negrich formerly of Makinak and Portage la Prairie enlisted 1940 and served as navigator, overseas since 1943 with a brother in France and two sisters at Winnipeg and Dauphin. Also named in release are F O Horace A Evans and F O Gordon W Bedford reported missing after air operations.

Council Renews Discussion On Filtration Plant

Town council again weighs a modern filtration plant due to muddy water. They favor gathering full construction cost data and aim for spring start if conditions permit.

Car Hits Horse on No 5 Highway East of Town

A car driven by W. Hess struck and killed a horse owned by B. Phillips on No 5 highway several miles east of town about 12 30 a m last Wednesday. The horse had escaped from a pasture. The car suffered heavy damage but no injuries were reported.

Contested judging classes highlight field day events

Forty district contestants faced heavy rain and poor reads as they judged swine poultry grain and vegetables at the third Community Field Day held at the fair grounds Friday. Bill Forbes led the swine class and aggregate with 840 points while Ann Madsen claimed poultry and grain titles. Shirley Boles won the junior aggregate with 800 points and Ross Forbes earned the horticultural award. Ken Angus narrowly missed top honors with 830 points. Edna McConnell chaired the program noting next year junior judging will join the summer fair. Frt.Lt. Gorby presented awards and commended local farmers. Prof. Harrison delivered the main address.
