The Dauphin annual regional fair and livestock exhibition opened with notable gains over last year. Horse entries surged while cattle tone up and sheep swine steady, with industrial and poultry judging led by Miss J Alexander Winnipeg and Mrs J Conner. A busy second day featured packed grandstand, racing, baseball, and girls and boys competitions, with Dauphin and area exhibitors active throughout.

Manitoba Horse Training Camp At Lake Dauphin
The Manitoba Horse, headquartered at Dauphin, opened a week long training camp Sunday at Welcome Beach on Lake Dauphin. Over one hundred officers and men participate under Lieut Col O McGuirk with units from Dauphin McCreary and McCreary A squadron. Lieut W J Easterbrook leads the signallers and Sgt R Malcolm heads the machine gun crew. Major H E Welland commands the McCreary unit. The annual military sports event is set for Thursday afternoon with public attendance invited.

Ukraina Resident Ends Own Life on Monday
Eiko Kiushka a 50 year old farmer living north of Ukraina hanged himself Monday while wife was away in the village. Coroner Pr G W Rogers of Dauphin found the inquest unnecessary.

The Dauphin Country Club team won the Dauphin Neepawa Minnedosa district in the Free Press Golf Tournament, earning the right to represent the district in the playoffs. Dauphin’s John Gardner Jr. was low with 78, joined by A T Warnock 88, R P Eastman 88, and John Gardner Sr. 89.

Dauphin District UFM Convention Set For Friday
About a hundred delegates from thirty locals will attend the Dauphin District United Farmers of Manitoba convention now scheduled for Friday. The event moves from October to July to permit outside delegates by car, with reports in the morning and resolutions in the afternoon. Alfred Presunka Buried After Five Weeks Illness
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Greek Catholic Church for Alfred Steven Presunka age 19 of Dauphin son of Mr and Mrs Angus Presunka who died in Dauphin General Hospital after a five week illness Rev Father M Pelech officiated pallbearers were Gestur Hjalmarson Bill Moffit Tony Cowton Peter Presunka Jim Williams and Joe Koshey A keen sportsman he played football hockey and softball at Collegiate Institute and was a skilled rifle shot who won a military district No 14 prize years ago He is survived by his parents five sisters Mrs W Patterson Rackham Man Emily Presunka The Pas and Alice Phyllis Margaret of Dauphin and three brothers Walter Russell and David of Dauphin.
