Weather and attendance soar at Dauphin Fair opening

First day reviews show good weather and record crowd as dairy, poultry and horse shows attract widespread entries. Notable exhibitors include Parrot Poultry Farm, Morley, Whitmore, Cook, Speakman Bros, and dozens of regional breeders. judges prize a wide range of livestock and crafts amid artful hall displays.

United Farm Women Meet Shows Child Welfare Talks

Delegates from farm locals including Roblin attend the United Farm Women of Manitoba gathering. Mrs Vv. E Phillips presides, with Mrs L. P Hatccesen as secretary. Sessions feature talks on the UFM, British Columbia fruit, World Poultry Congress, and child welfare led by Miss Charlotte Whitton.

Aged Ukrainian Man Killed By Train Near Wilson River

Timko Rolski an 80 year old Ukrainian immigrant was struck and killed by a Prince Albert train at North Junction early Saturday July 11. He walked along the track to reach his son's farm at Wilson River slipped or fell into the line and died instantly. The body was taken to Farrells undertaking parlors. Rolski, his wife and family came from Galicia 32 years ago to settle at Wilson River he retired eight years ago and later remarried Mrs Lubiniecki who died three years ago. His two sons Peter and Nicola live at Wilson River. The remains were laid to rest in a cemetery near Ashville.

Picnic at Ochre Beach for Dauphin residents and railway employees

A basket picnic will be held at Ochre Beach Lake Dauphin on Thursday July 26 under the auspices of the Canadian National Social and Athletic Association. Automobiles will depart from the Canadian National Railways Depot at Dauphin to Ochre Beach in two shuttles mornings and early afternoon. Those who can drive are asked to take friends without cars and help transport the crowd.

Cameron Heap Warehouse Break-In Reported

A Cameron Heap warehouse was broken into on Thursday night July 12. Entry was gained via a lavatory window and interior doors were forced. Police are investigating and stock losses are not yet known. Earlier that evening Brown and Boulls on Main Street reported $20 in silver stolen from a bag behind the counter. An attempted break in also occurred at Spillett's Garage with a worker catching a burglar mid window.

Miss Charlotte Whitten Addresses Dauphin Rotary on Child Welfare

Ottawa expert Miss Charlotte Whitten spoke at the Dauphin Rotary Club luncheon at Hotel Hamilton. She urged viewing child welfare as essential to citizenship and highlighted Manitoba spending, stressing informed public understanding and state responsibility where homes fail.

Bill Arnett Joins Hole in One Club

Friday the 13th brought luck to golf enthusiast Bill Arnett at Dauphin Country Club. On No 2 green from 145 yards with a masked shot, he pitched to the cup for a perfect hole in one. The triumph, second in the club’s history, left Arnett and many friends elated as Win received congratulations.

Mrs Cross Buried After River Find In Winnipeg

Mrs. F. W. Cross, whose body was recovered from the Assiniboine River, Winnipeg, was brought to town for burial. The funeral was held on the 12th with Rev. H. M. Lyons officiating. Pallbearers were A. A Brewer D. E. McLean M. Neal J. Burton J. McMurray and L. Hutchinson.

Premier King Will Not Visit Dauphin in August

W. J. Ward MP received Ottawa telegram July 13 stating Prime Minister Mackenzie King must forego the Dauphin visit due to unforeseen engagements on a westward trip. He regrets missing the planned August visit and hopes to arrange a future occasion.

Country Club championship second flight draw posted

The draw for the second flight is posted in the Club House. Competition must be played to the eights by July 28 and to the fours by August 4, or games will be defaulted.
