Stamp Drive Draws Dauphin Citizens To Theatre

Dauphin residents packed the Dauphin and Gay Theatres for a Stamp Out Hitler drive raising five hundred dollars in war savings stamps. Admission was free with two stamps. many were turned away as seats sold out. FP Wright led advance ticket sales with volunteers organizing canvassers, and local artists performed. Mayor J E Ramsden chaired the program, praising organizers and noting the community’s war effort.

Brother of Mrs M Zworon Escapes Dunkirk

Dr Burton Yuill, brother of Mrs M Zworon, was evacuated from Dunkirk six weeks ago. He sent a June 4 message from England confirming safe arrival with no injuries. Born in Gilbert Plains, he served in the Imperial Army medical corps and had been in France since October last year. The Yuill family in Dauphin recalls his ordeal and escape.

Last week rainfall amounts recorded with totals since April 1, 1940. The period shows 6.14 inches, compared with 6.05 inches in 1939. The long term average for the same span is 6.58 inches.

Fully Mechanized Artillery Battery Visits Dauphin

More than 300 officers and men with 30 mechanized transports and four 18 pounder field guns toured Dauphin entering from the south about 10 30 Wednesday morning after a night in Riding Mountain National Park. Major H E Wright saluted at the cenotaph with Major J E Ramsden and Lieut Col O McGuirk present as the unit paraded along Main Street. The tour aimed to show a fully trained fighting force and to train HQ staff in servicing equipment and feeding men on the march. The 91111 battery comprises Calgary Vancouver and Nelson crews. a second battery from Winnipeg and Regina will visit Dauphin Friday morning.

Council Rebuilds Two Blocks Of Main Street Sidewalk

East side sidewalk on Main Street between Second and Third Avenues will be rebuilt after new construction. Bus company requests to park on Main Street denied, forcing future carriers to use side streets. Veterans note advances in field artillery and esprit de corps

Veterans of the first Great War commented on the improvement in field artillery over the last twenty years. They observed guns equipped with modern pneumatic tires can haul 35 miles an hour if needed and were impressed by the friendly spirit between officers, NCOs, and men.

Registrars Named For Dauphin Area

E. A. Marcroft and Albert Redgate appointed registrar and assistant registrar for the Dauphin federal constituency for national registration. All residents aged 16 or over must register during a four day period from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. A $200 fine or up to three months in jail applies for noncompliance or furnishing false information.

Second group of women complete motor training

Dauphin's second Women's Auxili ary Motor Service class finished its eight week course on Tuesday with exams for certificates and pins. A social gathering followed at Mrs. E. C. Herrick's home where instructor Frank Fulbrook received an wallet. Participants included Mrs. E. C. Herrick Mrs. J. H. McElwain Miss L. Roe Miss J. Grandstand Crowds Highlight Northwestern Manitoba Summer Fair

Large North Western Manitoba fair crowds reflect a strong local interest in light horse breeding amid reduced grants. Friday set a record for grandstand receipts and packed seating, while Saturday drew full stands for performances. The event featured harness racing, Death Dodgers thrill show, Saskatoon Girls' Pipe Band, and a long livestock and machinery parade led by prize horses and four–horse teams. Machinery displays showed power farming trends with major implement firms present. The Dominion agriculture exhibit promoted bacon quality for Britain and a grain movement display illustrated prairie to seaboard transport.
