Dauphin-Ochre River Wins First in Inter-district Contest

Dauphin Ochre River district claimed first place in the Hon. Robert Weir inter-district competition with Gilbert Plains Grandview a close second as Dauphin Fair enjoyed ideal weather and a busy program. Attendance rose on Thursday and Friday though Saturday rain decreased crowds.

Winnipeg golfers visit Dauphin Country Club for fraternal outing

A Winnipeg golf delegation led by R A Robison and Robt Jacob visited Dauphin after stops at Gladstone and Neepawa. Carson McWilliams posted 79 to lead Dauphin players with H A N North close behind. luncheon followed as Jacob praised the course and invited further exchanges.

Preliminary Round July 23 Stay Granted in Dauphin Case

A court grants a stay of proceedings until Thursday July 23 in Wallace versus Town of Dauphin. The case concerns reclosing a lane on Main Street next to Stelck's Ltd. Hearing is set in Winnipeg.

Gladstone Boy Injured as Horse Fails in Race

Ernest Smith of Gladstone rode a horse belonging to W Shewman in a Dauphin fair race. The horse leapt the fence, throwing Smith unconscious. The animal landed on Mrs Farion of Sifton, injuring her pelvis in three places. Both victims were taken to hospital. Smithson recovered and left for home.

Pocklington Family to Move to Kingston Ontario

Mr and Mrs Wilfrid Pocklington and three children depart on the twentieth for Kingston Ont where he will head the Confederation Life Asso ciation business in the Ontario Kingston area He is a former Canadian infantry engineer royal flying corps veteran and has held multiple company posts since 1923 The family leaves Dauphin after ten years of friendship and the local Herald wishes them well

Kiddies' Day Planned by Town Council on July 30

The Town Council formed an organization at a Monday meeting with Mayor Robson as general chairman and R Fagen as secretary. Committees handle finance program grounds and refreshments for an afternoon of athletics swimming and boating races for children with free ice cream and lemonade.

Goodwill Air Tour Banquet Highlights Dauphin Welcome

Last Thursday a banquet for the Goodwill Air Tour at the Hamilton Hotel featured remarks by E N MecGirr of the Dauphin Board of Trade and a welcome by Mayor W E Robson. Duncan Cameron argued aviation can aid commerce and urged Dauphin to establish a licensed airport, noting a nearby field provided by Wm Ocriton.

Orange Lodges Celebrate at Roblin

Orange lodges from Dauphin Gilbert Plains Grandview Sunny Slope and Roblin gathered for a county celebration at Roblin on Monday July 13 with a parade picnic and races. W Waggoner was marshal and the Roblin band led the procession. Local officials and MLAs spoke including Mayor Mitchell F Y Newton and W H Spinks. Exhibition baseball games and children’s races capped the day.

The Dominion Bureau of Statistics reports favorable weather over the past fortnight improving crop prospects in Canada. Prairie feed conditions eased as new grass and late sown coarse grains grew, aided by showers widespread across the western regions.

St Peter’s Day Observed At Ethelbert With Games And Dance

About 50 residents gathered at Ethelbert for St. Peter’s Day. Rev Kaminski conducted a morning mass followed by lunch by the Ladies’ Aid. Teams from Ethelberg Pine River Gilbert Plains and Camperville played base ball at the fairgrounds then a concert in the hall and late night dancing ended the celebration.

Winnipeg Man Dies From Electric Shock In Gilbert Plains

James W. Wallace 36 resident of Winnipeg died in hospital after an elevator painting accident at Gilbert Plains. He slipped fell twenty feet while trying to save himself touching a hydro wire and tin on the elevator causing severe burns. Funeral set for Winnipeg today under St John’s Lodge No 4 AF and AM.

Through June the Dauphin Tourist Camp logged 144 registrations. Visitors from Winnipeg Saskatoon Chicago Vancouver and beyond praised the camp as the best yet with remarks on its wonderful setting homelike feel and overall quality.
