Dauphin Summer Fair Promises Record Crowd

Dauphin's 1905 summer fair opens today with a planned grand round up and stampede. Entries in all classes exceed last year as exhibitors from across northern Manitoba return. A first farm boys camp attracts over fifty entries. two big parade days start at 10:30 each morning, featuring the Dauphin Citizens Band, cowboys, decorated floats, and a western town atmosphere. Admission drop to 25 cents with full value promised.

Ochre River Wins Second Place At Boys Farm Camp

Ochre River youths scored second in the Farm Boys Camp judging at Brandon Fair. Darrell Henderson led with top marks in horses and cattle, while Melvin Thompson and Bill Cooper bolstered the Ochre River team. Dauphin's Alan Durston Rex Boughen and Bert Nicholson also performed well. John Conner accompanied the teams.

Tennis Club Plans Annual Tournament For Next Week End

The Dauphin Tennis Club announces its annual tournament to be held Thursday July 18, Friday July 19, and Saturday July 20 starting at 2 p.m. Daily events include men and ladies singles and doubles and mixed doubles. Entries close July 17 with W. H McDermid Earl Chase or Lyall Mc Morran.

Property Committee Approves Plan For Recreational Area

The June 25 meeting of the property committee, attended by Mayor McDonald and Councillors Solomon and Contus, reviewed three property actions. McGirr’s bid for lot 17, block 23, plan 243 was sent to the next council meeting due to low attendance. Pauline Demchuk’s purchase request for lot 16, block 64, plan 359 was deferred for more information. Recommends council proceed with recreation use for lots 15–20, block 10, plan 245 under supervision of the Commercial Travellers and Commercial Girls associations.

Dauphin Couple Celebrate Silver Wedding Anniversary

Councillor and Mrs. S Solomon observed their silver wedding anniversary on July 3 1919 in Winnipeg and Dauphin. Solomon serves on the town council and chairs the finance committee. he is active in Masonic circles while Mrs. Solomon leads the Eastern Star. They have three children, Dr Ernest Solomon researching at the University of Manchester, Allan to graduate from the University of Manitoba in fall, and daughter Maria attending local school. A large Winnipeg group visited Dauphin Sunday to offer congratulations.

Floods Wreak Havoc in Sifton District

Last week's floods badly hit Sifton with homes submerged gardens damaged and livestock lost. The Kostecki family woke to three feet of water in their house while others rescued relatives by boat as bridges failed and residents evacuated to upper floors amid widespread crop and beehive losses.

A Day at Shilo Camp with 6th Cavalry Brigade

Shilo Camp east of Brandon hosted the 6th Cavalry Brigade for ten days of intensive training from June 26 to July 5 under Lord Strathcona Horse instructors. Daily routines included reveille at 6 30, mounted parades, rifle ranges at 100 200 and 500 yards, and Saturday brigade sports with events like V C race and musical chairs. The Manitoba Horse won four events, while artillery units and RCAF pilots practiced amid daily shellfire and aircraft noise. a Fairchild monoplane offered half hour flights to officers.

Machine Gunners Of Manitoba Win In Shilo Camp Cup

The Dauphin Machine Gun corps led by Lieut. G. M. Churchill won the first round of the Stockwell Cup at Camp Shilo on June 29. Gunners from Manitoba Horse, Manitoba Mounted Rifles, 12th Mounted Dragoons, and Fort Garry Horse competed. the Dauphin unit will not defend this year, but marks will be compared across districts with the cup to be announced later in summer.

Miss Pearl Nechka Dies After Short Illness in Haliez

Miss Pearl Nechka aged 27 and a Dauphin resident for years died at her Haliez home on Sunday July 7 after a brief illness. Born in the Dauphin Ashville area she lived in Saskatoon for four years including time in the Saskatoon Sanatorium. She spent the last five years in Dauphin mainly at the Royal Cafe where her kind nature made her a favorite. her passing deeply mourned by her family.

Town Dam Site Likely To Be Relocated After Inquiry

A special town council session examined the washout of the dam and planned a full investigation of conditions and a new site. Town engineer Geo J Brown outlined surveys to begin July 1 and said the existing dam might be replaced with a larger spillway and relocated intake to ensure flood safety and cleaner supply.
