Pioneer John Edwards Dies at Dauphin Farm
John Edwards founder of the Dauphin district died at his Ed wards Creek farm on Friday July seventh aged 94. The funeral was held Monday at St James United Church with Rev. D Flemming and burial in Riverside Cemetery. Survived by two daughters and one son, with six grandchildren. wife and three sons predeceased him. Edwards helped pioneer Lake Dauphin country arriving in 1883 after crossing creeks and rivers with a surveyor guiding westward to Edwards Creek. He remained there, facing early freight hardships and hard country life. He died peacefully as his end approached. The obituary notes his hardy, rugged physique and lasting impact on the community. Brandon man suffers severe yard accident with leg amputation
On Saturday near the roundhouse in the C N R yard a 25 year old man, David Johnson formerly of Brandon, was struck by shunted cars. He lost his right leg below the knee and sustained hip injuries. In hospital, condition reported satisfactory. he had come two weeks earlier to work on the coal unloading here.

A large crowd gathered at Ochre River for annual sports day featuring baseball and softball. Eight baseball entries split into junior and senior divisions with Jos Allard umpiring six finals. Ochre River won senior title 12-6 over McCreary after round wins over Lawrence and Wilson River, while junior action saw Ethelbert and Ste. Rose reach the final, Ste. Rose winning 7-6. Three girls softball teams competed, with Wilson River taking the title 6-3 over Ochre River after a Ste. Rose bye. Dauphin Boys Band provided musical interludes and a late community dance followed the events.
