The three day Dauphin fair opened Tuesday afternoon with N C McKay director of the provincial extension service performing the ceremony. Attractions and midway show were highlighted and winners will be featured in The Herald.

420 Foot Break In Water Line Fixed Tuesday

The town clears muck from pipelines after a 420 foot break. Crews rush daily removal as water intake and reservoir conditions improve. The engineer reports satisfactory intake and a hopeful supply of clean water from the reservoir despite extensive past damage.

Balloons Released For Jolson Week Opening

Fifty multicolored balloons will mark the mayoral salute to Jolson week. They will be released from the Dauphin theatre roof at 2 00 pm Monday and some balloons will carry free passes to the Jolson Story show.

Taxpayers Rush Yields 30 746 76 In Discount Taxes

On the final day of the five per cent tax discount Dauphin residents paid 18 216 72 and a prior day 12 216 72, totaling 30 746 76 by the deadline. This surpasses last year’s 19 254 19 pre deadline total by several thousand dollars.

Air Mail Service Set to Begin July 14

The postal department announced a six day a week two way air mail service starting July 14 linking Winnipeg Dauphin The Pas and Flin Flon. Six flights will depart Flin Flon weekly and six from Winnipeg ensuring full mail delivery to northern points.

Excavation Finished On New North End Elementary School

The Henderson, a new elementary school at the north end, finished excavation on Wednesday with cribbing placed for footings. Supervisor E Fitz Munn will arrive Thursday to begin erection. The district expects the building to be ready for fall term, with temporary space in MacKenzie and other schools if needed for displaced pupils.

Heavy flood damage near Ashville junction forces detours on No 5 and No 10 highways. A temporary eastern bypass to the ruined Wilson river bridge is expected to open by week’s end, with permanent bridge replacement to follow. Hydro Donates Prize Money To Organizations Parade Winner

The Manitoba Power Commission float won first prize in Tuesday's parade but refused the first $50. George Scott, the local manager, said the prize would be donated to two Dauphin groups: Dauphin Memorial and Community Eye and the Woman's Hospital. The winning float featured a moss covered truck with a rural farm scene on the back.
