The No. 10 highway from Riding Mountain National Park north gate to Clearlake is advancing well with grading and gravelling near completion. M. F. Szewcczyk of the Dauphin chamber of commerce notes substantial summer work, expecting road building to finish before winter freeze. Nearly 1.5 miles graded and gravelled, another 0.5 mile prepared, and a further 1.5 miles graded toward Kipran's mill to Moon Lake.

Chief Highway Engineer Retires After 42 Years
T T Tommy Wilson aged 65 ends a 42 year public service with eight years as Dauphin district engineer. He began in 1919 and rose to chief highway engineer in 1936. He plans to reside near Winnipeg's Granite curling rink after retirement.

Pine River Area Reveals Deposit For Coal Mining
R Johnston of Boissevain reports a large surface coal deposit on the Pine river north bank seven miles northwest of Pine River village. The seam lies about 14 feet below ground, more than 12 feet thick, and is believed to be higher grade than Estevan lignite. Pen pit methods with bulldozers open the seam. road work from Duck River backs mining to 600 tons daily when equipment arrives.

The Dauphin tourist camp opened May 1 and has hosted 522 Canadian and American visitors over May and June. Over 200 cars entered the camp with registrations from British Columbia Quebec and other regions. Manitobans led with 95 arriving parties while North Dakotans contributed 36 car loads. Visitors came from Pasadena California Key West Florida and Des Moines Iowa.
