Orangemen Plan Midweek Celebration Parade and Fete

A large Orangemen gathering is planned with a 12 45 p m parade from Town Hall to exhibition grounds featuring King William on horseback. The RCAF brass band, Grand Lodge officers, banners, fife and drum bands, and softball tournaments will appear. A half holiday on Wednesday allows broader attendance with gate admission 25 cents adults and free for children under 12.

Car Turned Over When Two Vehicles Collide at Intersection

An accident at noon Monday involved two cars driven by Mike Puchatski and George Cornwall at the First Street Fifth Avenue NE intersection. Cornwall’s car overturned. no injuries reported and damages undetermined.

Two Fines Imposed For Rentals Infractions

Magistrate Thomas Little presided over two rental infractions. Mr. Shewfelt, represented by I. E. Johnstone, pleaded guilty and was fined 15 dollars plus 4.25 dollars costs. On June 30, J. E. Wallwin of Dauphin admitted guilt, receiving a 15 dollar fine and 6.25 dollars costs.

Picnic At Broken Pipe Lake Draws Large Dauphin Crowd

Upwards of a thousand people from all parts of the district attended the annual picnic staged by the Dauphin Ukrainian People's home at Broken Pipe lake Sunday. Races and softball tournaments highlighted the program with Ethelbert taking first and Halicz second after beating Kelid. Speakers included W. J. Ward M P Mark J. Long and F. S. Zaplitny. Sam Leskin chaired the program and oversaw sports while J A Yurkiw managed the booths.

The notice reports F/Sgt Snyder age 26 educated in Dauphin enlisted 1941 with the RCAF later training in Trenton Victoria and Ladner. It lists siblings Albert Blake Bernice Parrot Mrs Roy Archer and Rowand. It also reports WO2 John K Murray missing, Alma mater Kelvin High School, Wings earned December 1942, overseas since 1943, with brothers Lieut C Graham Murray and Sgt Bob in service elsewhere.

District Soldiers Casualties Reported From Overseas

Four Dauphin area youths in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and allied units are listed as missing or wounded overseas. Pte James B. Telfer is missing in France, as is RNn Anthony Hubert. Cpl Walter H Crowder and L/Cpl Nicholas Nahulak are wounded in France and Italy respectively. A fifth man Pte Alex Weselowski is missing in Italy. L/Cpl John James Gillan is reported killed in action.

Word reached Mr and Mrs Paul Roussin of Dauphin formerly Ste Rose du Lac that their son Rnn Henry Roussin 25 died of wounds received in action on June 6. The family notes his service and near relatives.

Vermilion flood halts town power plant production

High water from the Vermillion river caused the town electric light plant to shut down actual electricity production for about three days. The plant relied on Manitoba Power Commission hydro lines while water inundated basements and ash pits. The skating rink nearby suffered five to six feet of flooding with mud, buckled floors, and a wrecked ice area, now undergoing cleanup.

Residential Building Permits Reach New Peak

Eight building permits issued in June bring Dauphin’s half year total to 38 with estimated construction costs of $37,951. May remains the peak month with 15 permits. Yearly totals include 15 new dwellings costing $28,571, 9 alterations for $6,100, and 14 repairs at $3,280.

Mayor L C Johnston proclaims Wednesday July 12 a civic holiday to let Dauphin citizens take part in the Loyal Orange Lodge monster celebration. The usual Thursday half holiday will not be observed next week.

Clear Lake Brushed by Forest Wind Storm at Wasagaming

The wind storm at Riding Mountain National Park center Wasagaming felled hundreds of spruce trees and damaged cottages. Wind gusts reached 35 to 40 miles per hour for 24 hours with five inches of rain and an eight inch lake rise. Power is out for weeks to camps and stores while crews clear debris and reopen access. no injuries reported.
