Holes in Streets Prompt Town Council Action

Rain damage exposes weak spots on Main Street and Burrows Avenue with holes and rough surfaces. Gravel streets fixed by drag operations but washerboard condition persists. Cryderman Named by CCF for Dauphin Seat

Maurice W. Cryderman wins CCF nomination by acclamation for Dauphin provincial constituency at a Dauphin CCF event last Friday. A longtime educator at Dauphin Collegiate since 1941, he has been active in party affairs for seven years and previously led the local CCF association.

Burglary at Siffon Store Reported

Gas tank keys and gasoline stolen from the Siffon store after a night of rain. Burglars followed by tracks believed to have used a truck. A crowbar and groves left at the scene. Constables Dobson and McAdlister of the R.C.M.P. lead the investigation.

Dauphin Proclaims Civic Half Holiday Next Tuesday

Mayor I. C. Johnston issues a proclamation designating July 10 as a civic half holiday in Dauphin from noon, with stores closed to allow merchants and staff to attend the fair. The usual Thursday half holiday remains in effect.

Boys and Girls Clubs Rally at Dauphin Fair

The Dauphin district hosts its second annual interclub rally with 700 youth from 57 junior clubs taking part at the fair. The event features clothing club displays, education booths, judging competitions, a grandstand parade, and trophy presentations coordinated by Manitoba agriculture officials and Eaton's.

Pine River chosen as prime eclipse viewing site

Pine River Manitoba a town of 250 residents has become a focal point for scientists from North America preparing to observe and record the sun eclipse on July 9. The village lies on the Canadian National Railways line 243 miles northwest of Winnipeg between Dauphin and Swan River and is within the totality belt making it an ideal vantage point.

Dauphin Fair Readies July 9 to 11 At Dauphin

The Dauphin Fair and race meet opens Monday July 9 with livestock and industrial shows drawing entries from near and far. Highlights include Winnipeg driving horses from T Eaton Co Limited, Florette Mc Quaig troupe nightly, Harold Green host, Gilbert Plains band, Casey midway, and free admission for children 16 and under on Monday.
