Miss Dauphin Crown Won by Lorraine Tychholiz

Lorraine Tycholtz won the Miss Dauphin title in a water contest sponsored by the Dauphin Commercial Travellers association. The 64 275 purse insured her win with Irene Mymko and Dorothy Whig as runners up. Lorraine also placed fourth in Miss Manitoba. the Brandon Travellers association crowned Miss Doreen Duke.

Fairtime Exhibition Regional Shorthorn Show to Feature

New Photo Studio Opens in Dauphin By Young Entrepreneurs

Dauphin's newest business venture, Chab Photo Studios, opened July 2 on south Main beside Perth's. Wayne Chute and Dave Bates run the shop offering film supplies pickup and delivery and portrait photography, each bringing youth, local ties, and photographic experience to the venture.

Three Negrych Sisters Make Strides at Manitoba University

The Negrych sisters Hope Love and Sylvia of Ashville earned recognition at the University of Manitoba. Hope, a third-year Pharmacy student, won $150 for top standing in exams plus several prizes including the $125 Frosst scholarship and the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association medal. Love completed a four-year Arts History degree and authored a book on Canada’s pioneers. Sylvia finished a four-year science program and is engaged in research and bio work.

Million-dollar plywood plant bid fades in Dauphin

The Quelph Plywood Company limited of Montreal withdrew plans for a Manitoba site in Dauphin citing that timber limits would force a pulp mill. Council backed the study and offered water rate relief and land access for a large plant employing about 75 workers with a cost of about one million dollars.

Blood Donor Clinic Set For Dauphin July 17

The Red Cross blood donor clinic will visit Dauphin on Wednesday July 17 with sessions 2 to 4 pm and 6 30 to 9 pm at the town hall. The Dauphin Legion will canvass homes to recruit donors through July 10 in support of the 113 hospitals served.
