Tax Rate for Year Struck in Wartime

Pioneer George Barker dies in Winnipeg at 71

Obituary recalls George Barker a Dauphin pioneer born in Stratford Ontario who settled in Manitoba in the eighties, helped found Dauphin as its first mayor and built a Main Street block before later ventures. He leaves two daughters and a son, funeral held at Riverside cemetery with Rev. R. E. Spence presiding.

Successful Barn Dance at Buchanan Home

The second barn dance, held Monday evening July 1 at W R Buchanan's residence, drew a large crowd under La Veranda chapter I O D E with Allied flags and bright electric lights. McMurray's orchestra opened with Oh Canada as ice cream and nets were served by a ladies committee. Sid McIntosh, auctioneer, offered an elaborate silk kimono with proceeds around 175 dollars.

Mr A H F Stelck claims a new record by driving a Baby Grand Chevrolet from Winnipeg to Dauphin last week. He left at 10 30 a m and arrived at 10 p m after a journey that included a one hour assist for another stranded motorist.
