Government Will Assist Deserving Borrowers

A meeting of newly appointed Rural Credits Society officials was held in Dauphin on Wednesday July 2. John Wylie of the Rural Credit Office Winnipeg outlined the department policy on outstanding loans and said the government will aid deserving borrowers while not unduly pressuring repayment. Dauphin Plans Three Day Annual Fair With Big Attractions

Dauphin prepares a three day fair July 11 to 12 with an elaborate program. Old Timers day July 11 and County Orangemen July 12 shape the schedule while a special train from Dauphin to points west departs July 12 at 10 30 p.m. A two day baseball tournament and a harness race for purses total 150 100 and 50 dollars anchor the event. Eddie Wellman of Russell steers umpiring duties for the tournament. A Midway with approved riding devices travels in the circuit from Seattle to coast cities.

Leadership Camp for Older Boys Called Off This Year

Provincial Boys Work Board notes cancelation of the Seven Elms Beach leadership camp near Stoney Point on Lake Dauphin. A Pelican Lake camp runs July 2 to 9 for those registered, with Seven Elms planned for next year and a younger boys camp later in July to be announced.

Manitoba Temperance Act violators dealt with at Swan River

Yuen Loy, a chink at Swan River, appeared before T. L. Swift on the 27th alt charged with infracting the Manitoba Temperance Act. He was found guilty and fined 200 dollars and costs. J. H. Himpett of Bowsman appeared on the 27th alt before W. S. Edwards charged with obtaining liquor from a source other than a licensee. He pled guilty and was fined 75 dollars and costs of sixty days. Himpett paid cash rather than face the crown.

Elks Win at Gilbert Plains Sports

Elks baseball team captured first prize at Gilbert Plains sports on the 1st, defeating Eldon Mountview and Grandview in a sequence of 5-3 wins before a 8-0 final against Grandview in the final. Cleo drove a bases loaded homer and Smith followed with another. Elks advance to play Ochre River and C.N.R. subsequent games.

Ochre River Wins Local Ball Tournament

Ochre River captured the baseball tournament with a strong day of play defeating competitors McCreary Makinak and Gart more to secure the title. The local nine showcased skill across the event with decisive at bats and solid defense.

Five Hospital Nurses Graduate Monday

Five nurses at the hospital completed training and graduated in a Monday ceremony at the Town Halls. Speakers included W R McCormack Mayor Fagen Rev Thos Neville Dr Harrington and H N Macneill who recalled the hospital’s growth and praised the graduates. The event featured Florence Nightingale pledge and medals, with Miss Lambkin Maltman Thomason Schaldemose and Whitmore receiving diplomas.

Children Health Conference at Dauphin Fair

The Dauphin Agricultural Society and the Provincial Board of Health host a Children's Health Conference on July 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dr. Ellen Douglas of Winnipeg attends. The event aims to reveal hidden health defects and teach mothers proper child care. no prizes are awarded.

Dauphin Racing Pigeon Club Old Bird Race Results

The Dauphin Racing Pigeon Club held the Old Bird race from Rosetown 344 miles, with all birds clocked on day one. Winners were Wm. McClernon first, W. H. May second, D. Robb third. Next races` Youngstown and Calgary will determine Manitoba’s Free Press Championship cup. Dauphin fair adds amateur cream grading with five prizes from five to one dollar, fifty entrants max, free entries.

Teachers excursion to British Columbia leaves for trip

Miss Lola Caldwell and Miss Gertie Cooper left Wednesday on the teachers excursion to British Columbia. Twenty two horses belonging to the Burrows Lumber Co. perished in a fire last week at Bowsman.
