Teachers present a yearly salary plan extending ten years with maximums and credits for prior experience. Credits for outside experience, university work, and degrees are outlined, with different scales for primary and secondary grades and for principals. Married men cited as a category for extra pay, while a final decision was deferred.
After months of talks the Canadian Legion has taken over distribution of building materials for veterans at No 10 airport. Housing Enterprises refused to sell at the airport, forcing veterans to order through the Legion which will buy in bulk and deliver within ten days. From 47 applications, 30 from town and 17 rural, the list includes 22 basins 100000 feet of shiplap 45 doors 26 windows and other items with costs added for transport and distribution.
Health unit urges prohibition on selling raw milk within Dauphin boundaries while the police steer away from licensing the Dauphin social club amid past gambling concerns. A by-law could pause raw milk sales. pasteurized milk is urged for safety and tuberculosis concerns.
The district saw total grants rise with a new area plan. A group receives 2473.60 equalization, B group allocations include 400 for two teachers and 350 for courses, while C group gets 7000 for 35 teachers and 1200 for transportation. Two-thirds of per capita costs covered by government.
Dauphin Intermediates meet Nee Pawa for the third time seeking their first win in the series. The decisive game is set for Saturday night on home ice.
The R C M P notified The Herald that January 31 is the deadline for purchasing driver licenses and vehicle registrations. After that date a summons will be issued to anyone found operating without a license.
The Canadian Legion B E S L completes a final list of World War I casualties to be placed on the cenotaph. Residents are urged to verify no name is omitted as the memorial also honors the two world wars and stands on page seven of the paper.
The Dauphin town council raised regular employees hourly rate from 55 to 60 cents. Casual laborers stay at 50 cents an hour. Office staff increases ranged from five to 35 dollars a month.
After a warm weekend residents felt summer then temperatures plunged to minus 26 on Tuesday. An additional three inches of snow on Sunday threatened road work begun after a prior storm. Most highways remain open except the Winnipegosis route, which is not yet in good condition.
Area board seeks to acquire No 10 airport two storey barracks from War Assets to establish a municipal technical school in Dauphin. Plans call for re erecting the building across MacKenzie school and using space for vocational training with mixed academic and vocational schedules and equal credits for both tracks.
Dauphin town council approved 1947 health unit estimates totaling 1678.32 dollars at 36 cents per person, up from 33 cents to cover a 1000 dollar operating deficit. Government share rises to 72 cents per person while town pays 36. diagnostic clinic costs total 792.50.
The Dauphin lady curlers begin their three day bonspiel Tuesday Feb 4 featuring Eaton Citizens and Club events. Trophies and prizes are on display at Eaton's window. The bonspiel committee comprises members from two local clubs with co chairmen Mrs J E Dalmage and Helen Marsh among others.
The council discussed lighting for Gladys street rail crossing and Main street crossing. Huts at No. 1 relief air field moved into town. A letter reminded Hon. W. R. Clubb about hotel dining room laws. A $5,000 Main Street project funds request moved to the municipal engineer. The town joined the Manitoba good roads association for $10. The K C M P requested office repainting, cell block, and a new clock. A Health League donation was refused as a health unit exists. No deputation will attend the Winnipeg transport hearing for the Canadian Pacific Airlines air route proposal.
The council reports 3200 bags of cement on hand for next year's Main Street project and for sidewalks and other public works. The council also disapproved canceling the town bus service as not given a fair trial in the limited time.
