The adjourned town council meeting on Tuesday approved a grant to furnish the rest room under the health and relief committee. Delegates urged the project, with Mrs. D Sutherland and Mrs. T F Malcolm appointed to represent the town on the rest room committee. Officials salary increases were approved for W A Brinkton, Chas Peer, Frank McEwen, Thos Bridle, and J W Johnston, with extended clerk office hours from 9am to 5pm. A slaughter house proposal by Mr S Baird prompted a committee to confer with him on water and sewer connections. Delegates D D McDonald and Coun Houston reported on the Union of Municipalities convention in Winnipeg.
Curling fans packed the district matches held Thursday. G Pos swept both sheets by three points to earn entry to the Do twinion match in Winnipeg. Dauphin’s Nelson Griffin defeated Frazer of the Plains in the Robinson primary, boosting Dauphin’s bid for the big spiel. The Plains defeated Dauphin in Gilbert Plains when Shep’s five end pushed them to victory after Dauphin held a four point lead with one end left.
The Soldiers' Aid society schedules a regular meeting for Tuesday February 4 with full attendance requested. A masquerade dance will be held in the town hall on February 4 with prize details to be announced next week.
Wim. Clemenson disposed of the north west 3 82 24 20 to J. Crawford of Killarney Manitoba for 5500. Wi. F. Boyd sold the south west 32 24 20 and the north east 20 24 20 to a Roblin farmer. Jas. Fair sold one of his three quarter sections at Spruce Creek.
Rosson at Dauphin welcomed a son to Mr. and Mrs. Jas B Robson on January 23. Ray at Dauphin saw a son born to Dr. and Mrs. Brace Ray of Tisdale Sask on January 29. Peace at Dauphin celebrated the birth of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. W F Percy on January 28.
The Baptist Ladies' Aid will host a ten cent tea and pantry sale on Saturday February 1 at the old Singer sewing machine stand on Main Street.
The Dauphin Lodge No. 36 L F and Musketay lodge members journeyed to Gilbert Plains on Wednesday. A special train arrived about 6 pm allowing a full evening of lodge and social business followed by a hearty supper and talks on advancing the order.
The mayor has called a public meeting for Wednesday Feb 5 at the town hall to discuss a perorial honoring fallen heroes. Citizens are invited to attend.
The La Verandrye Chapter will hold a regular meeting Saturday next February 1 at 3 o clock. Election of officers will take place. Ten pairs of socks and ten pyjama suits were handed to the Red Cross during the week.
The report lists Red Cross aid items received since December 1 by Unity and Methodist Baptist groups including scarves socks petticoats waists bloomers and gowns. Items were shipped January 27 totaling socks pyjamas towels wash cloths gowns scarves and personal property bags.
