East Africa Mutinies Spread Across Tanganyika Kenya and Zanzibar

British commandos landed at Dar es Salaam to quell mutinies amid rising tensions in Tanganyika Kenya and Uganda. At least 20 died and 17 were killed in earlier unrest as President Nyerere and Prime Minister Kenyatta faced outbreaks, while Zanzibar announced a revolutionary council and a Chinese diplomat moved to establish an embassy.

Macleod's Limited enlarges and renovates its 13 Third Avenue NE store, boosting floor space to 8 216 square feet plus 2 039 for stock rooms, adding furniture, appliances, clothing and sporting goods, with a double fast-check-out system and new lighting, heating, and fixtures. The project joins nearby growth including a dental clinic expansion on Second Avenue NW and Dixon's Painting and Flooring extending at 221 Main Street South with a 1 890 square foot rear section.

Elks Install New Officers in Dauphin Lodge

Past Manitoba Elks president Robert A. Mc Gimpsey led the January 22 Dauphin Elks No. 57 meeting installing three officers. Exalted ruler William Panko presided. Appointed officers included Stan Clark as treasurer, Paul Yerkins as ruler, and A C Matthews as publicity director and historian. Meeting adjourned after ritual.

Distiller Increases Canadian Whisky and Gin Prices

Manitoba retailers raise Canadian whisky and gin prices by 10 to 25 cents per 25 ounce bottle effective March 2. Affected brands reflect distiller price hikes to the Liquor Control commission with increases taking effect Feb 1 or shortly after. Whisky prices rise from 4.35–5.35 to 4.60–5.50 and gin from 4.25 to 4.40. The prior Manitoba price bump occurred in June 1959.

R B Truemner of Manitoba Industry and Commerce informed Dauphin officials that the town’s lingerie plant proposal has not been approved. The notice cited the need for a community development corporation and outlined a possible future garment project with estimated costs and labor supply details.

Argentine Rotary guests entertain Dauphin visitors

Seven Argentina girls visiting Canada with Rotary International were hosted by Dauphin Rotarians from Jan 19 to Feb 18. They attended dinners and events, toured local sites, performed songs, and received gifts including a town key from Mayor Mobberley. The group travels to Yorkton next.

DMCC Annual Meeting Set for Tonight in Dauphin

The Dauphin Memorial and Community Centre holds its annual meeting this Wednesday evening January 29. Financial statements for 1963 will be presented and four town members along with one rural member will be elected to the DMCC board. Outgoing directors include Ed Johansen Miss Helen Marsh George Jackman and Wally Robson. A one year town vacancy will be filled to complete Cy McCallum’s term. Current one year terms held by A. E. Ted Serase and Sam Leskin and town representatives and Billi Forbes Walter Durston as rural representatives. The 15 member board includes six annual appointments by sponsoring bodies from town and rural councils.

RCAF Band Coming For Feb 7 Performance

Dauphin residents and students are invited to a concert by the RCAT Training Command band of Rivers on Friday evening February 7 in the Collegiate auditorium. The international group has been assembled for the event and highlights music from around the world.
