Immortal Memory in Dauphin for Burns Celebration

The Dauphin St Andrews Society held the Burns birthday event at the town hall with Rev D Gardner presiding. The program featured McMurray Orchestra, four haggis, singing, toasts to The King and the Royal Canadian Anthem, and an address by D D McDonald. Rev W Reid of Swan River spoke on Scottish memory and identity, recalling Burns and Scottish heritage with humor and pride.

Big hockey attraction tomorrow night in Dauphin

Winnipeg C N R meets Dauphin AOUW in an exhibition game with Winnipeg’s top players set to perform. Dauphin fields a strong lineup including G M Churchill, while Monty Muckle Monde and Harry Neil join Elmwood and Millionaire stars in the wish to attract a large local crowd. Dauphin recently defeated Neepawa 8 to 3, with Bonar Whaley and Tom Scrase scoring and Chuck Willis in goal.

Address by C H Surnell on 100% Wheat Pool

C H Surnell delivers at Elks Hall on the 100% Wheat Pool scene. He cites prairie food production, Canada’s wheat export leadership, and the need for organized marketing to counter open markets and government-influenced prices. A resolution asks provincial government for a 100 pool to handle 1931 crops. Ferguson party heads to Winnipeg ahead of legislature.

Boles Wins Rural Ward Contest in Dauphin

Alex Boles was elected councillor of War 4 in the rural municipality of Dauphin by 14 votes over James B Robson. The late Wm K Hucharan created the vacancy. Boles totals 129 to Robson 115 across two polls. Boles has prior service on the School Board.

Train Strikes Car at Dauphin Crossing Injures Local Trio

A rear-end collision with box cars near Dauphin injured Mr John Taylor Mrs Jane Taylor and William Peckham of Gilbert Plains as they traveled home from Dauphin. The car suffered heavy damage though injuries were minor enough for discharge the next day. Jack Taylor a Gilbert Plains section foreman and former Dauphin Curling Club member was among the local tie-ins.

Farrell and Jacob Fined Under Game Act in Site

On January 20 Gordon Farrell and Gordon Jacob each fined 25 dollars plus costs by Magistrate Tucker of Site for infractions of the game act. Walter Jones paid 25 dollars and 10 dollars costs after being charged before Geo Mason of Makinak for two infractions. On January 21 John Zabinski sentenced by Magistrate Hawkins to two minutes in jail for theft.

Funeral for F W Seward Held at Dauphin Ontario

The funeral for Frederick W. Seward who died in Victoria British Columbia January 16 was held Sunday January 25 in Dauphin. Vermillion Lodge 68 F and A M led the rites with Masonic ceremonies at the temple and graveside. Burial at Riverside Cemetery followed. Survivors include his wife a daughter Freda and four brothers in the United States. His son had died earlier. The family accompanied the body from the coast and planned a return trip later in the week. Also noted is a Canadian Chamber of Commerce trade mission to Latin America leaving Halifax March 2 to attend the Buenos Aires exposition.

Library social features string quartet at Mackenzie school

A Tuesday evening program organized by Mr Padley at Mackenzie school auditorium showcased a high order string quartet with De. Bishop 1st violin Sperani viola Coulson cello and Davis piano. Selections included Beethoven Adante and Rondo and Tschaikowsky Song of Love with solos by H A N North Mr Skelly and Sperani and coordinated by Mr Padley.
