Danger to Town Watershed May Cause Rate Increase

Mayor D. D. McDonald warned the Dauphin Rotary Club that if watershed conditions worsen water rates and metering may be needed. He cited sedimentation and filtration plans tied to the new national park highway and discussed efforts to protect Riding Mountain's water source.

Good Reports Heard By Congregation Of United Church

Encouraging reports were presented at the Dauphin United Church annual meeting held January 20. Dr. D. K. Burns opened with prayer. R. M. Stevenson named chairman and A. Oliphant congregational secretary. Reports from church groups showed satisfactory progress and thanks were given to retiring stewards and the session clerk.

Pioneer Alexander Bole Dies in Dauphin District

Alexander Bole 88 longtime Dauphin district pioneer died January 20th at a friend’s home southeast of town after living on his homestead ten miles southeast earlier in life. Born in Scotland he came to Dauphin 46 years ago with his sister who predeceased him. He helped survey his own land and ran the Kenneth House with his sister in the RidIng Mountain area. Funeral Friday at Farrell’s Funer Chapel conducted by Rev. D. K. Burns with pallbearers Herb Grook Emerson Brook Tom Rawson Luke Coyne Wm. Durston and Peter Doerfler.

Seed Grain Fair and Short Course Set by Dauphin Society

The Dauphin Agricultural Society announces its annual seed grain fair held with the short course from March 2 to 4. Prizes cover red spring wheat oats barley clover and alfalfa with a judged seed show drawing buyers and sellers. entries urged. The short course features a judging contest with generous prizes, plus separate afternoon sessions for girls home economics and boys agriculture.

Dauphin Council Renews C N R Water Contract

At the regular Dauphin Town Council meeting a one year renewal of the water contract with the C N R was approved at the same rates as before. The shop rate is 7c per 1000 gallons with a 100000 gallon daily minimum. The short term renewal reflects unknown true delivery costs until town meters are installed. Additional items include progress on power house equipment, Edwards Creek icing due to cold, and a planned rise in direct relief cost share to 40 percent from January 1937, adding about $1000 annually. Participants listed include Mayor McDonald and Councillors Ramsden Puchalski Bennett Cowtun and Taylor.

National Parks See Rising Interest Says Superintendent

Interest in Canada’s national parks is growing reports Otto Heaslip superintendent of Riding Mountain National Park after a Ottawa conference. 1936 saw an all time high of 706000 park visitors signaling a booming tourist and vacation trend across the Dominion.

Reward Offered for Bank Robber Arrest in Old Hutch Run

A newspaper note claims a $100000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the bank robbers connected to the story of Old Hutch. The event is promoted at the Dauphin Theatre for Thursday Friday and Saturday of this week.

McMillan 68 Dies On Kaufman Farm In Dauphin

Lachlan Cameron McMillan a farm laborer for C. M. Kaufman southeast of town died Monday at Kaufman’s home. Aged 68, he came to Dauphin from Saskatchewan three years ago and had lived with Kaufman twenty years. Born Acton Ontario, his body shipped to the old home for burial. Farrell's Funeral Home arranged the services.

Dauphin Edges Neepawa In Open Hockey Tilt

Dauphin Intermediates defeated Neepawa 2 to 1 before home fans in a fast, even contest last Friday. Tomlin opened for Neepawa with Vivian assisting, then Dauphin answered in the third with McMaster and Billy Klym combining for goals to seal the win. The game included a moment of silence for Tommy Scrase, a long-time Intermediates member.
