Fire Brigade Sees Rise to 49 Calls in 1943
The Dauphin Fire Brigade answered 49 calls in 1943 up from 34 in 1942, with five false alarms. Of the 44 valid calls 33 were chimney fires, one rubbish fire, one gas fire, one motor fire, one street wiring fire and seven property fires. Hose laid surpassed 4 000 feet. salaries for attended fires were 1 272 dollars, 220 dollars for practices, and 100 dollars for the alarm system. Sailor From Gilbert Plains Killed in Halifax Truck Incident
Naval rating Robt. B. Snyder of Gilbert Plains was killed in Halifax on January 20 when struck by a truck. A Halifax resident was later released on bail on a manslaughter charge. Snyder was known in Dauphin and was brother to Mrs. Jas. White of the General hospital staff.

Mrs D D McDonald Dies In Hospital After Long Service
Agnes Gibbons McDonald aged about 72 died Sunday after a health decline followed by a brief recovery. Born in Northcote Ontario she married Duncan D. McDonald in 1903 and moved to Dauphin where he became a leading merchant. Survived by two daughters and husband she supported United Church and several civic organizations. Funeral services were held at United Church with private service at home.
